On January 28, 2026, Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit visited Fredrikstad Library on the occasion of its 100th anniversary. During the visit, they learned about the library’s long history. The cultural school provided cultural performances, and together with children from local kindergartens, they took part in a storytelling session.

In 1917, King Haakon VII laid the foundation stone for the new library. The adult section was opened on 27 January 1926, and on 8 March the children’s section was put into use. Since then, the building has served as Fredrikstad’s public library.
