On 27 January 2026, Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit attended a commemoration for the victims of the Holocaust at the Deportation Monument at Akershuskaia in Oslo. Holocaust Remembrance Day is observed every year on 27 January, marking the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi concentration camp, where at least 1.1 million people lost their lives during the WWII.
On 26 January 2026, Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit were also present at a commemoration against racism held at Oslo City Hall. The programme included musical performances by, among others, Maria Mena and Musti. Also in attendance were President of the Storting Masud Gharahkhani, Minister of Labour and Social Inclusion Kjersti Stenseng, and Mayor of Oslo Anne Lindboe.
