On the evening of April 16, 2026, an anniversary gala was held at one of Manhattan’s private members’ clubs to celebrate the 120th anniversary of the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce (SACCNY). Princess Madeleine attended the event. Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce (SACCNY) is a non-governmental organization established in 1906. The theme of the gala was the 1920s, and all guests adhered to the Gatsby Glamour Black Tie dress code. For the occasion, the Princess wore a sequinned gown by Temperley London.

Oh no ladies, what’s happening here? The sparkles are not enough to make up for ill fitting ill conceived garments. The expensive price tag can be the Kings New Clothes … if it’s X brand it MUST look great … no, it might be nothing at all. Better to do a Victoria and turn up in a neat H&M top and long skirt than these creations.
ReplyDelete@14:48 , the theme of this meeting was "Gatsby", so H&M is not really what was wanted. Of course, this is just another show of wealth, if we reject wealth, then it makes little sense to follow royal (and their associates') fashion. But I very much agree with you inasmuch as I would also prefer to see and follow royal ladies at work - that is, working royals - instead of women with title and expensive clothes but without any royal duties - or worse, directly harm their family. Madeleine does not do that, but there are some who do.
DeleteThank you 17:23 for your interesting and thoughtful response. I enjoyed reading esp the “if we l reject wealth” comment … made me think!
DeleteTHE THEME IS 1920s.
DeleteThis is how they used to dress up. Madeline is spot on!
Well I see what she was going for. She didn't quite pull it off but others didn't even try. Nice to see her. Others refuse to allow themselves to be harmed by their family and stand still. They supported
DeleteI don't like the Temperley London dress at all, but the hopefully faux shrug made it Gatsbyesque. Others didn't try. If working supporting your family and supporting important causes that help people harm your family then something is very wrong with that family.
DeleteDon't pay attention to other Europeans. Titles come from parents. At least Prince Harry and Meghan support good causes.
DeleteAnonymous 22:06, Harry and Meghan support themselves.
DeleteAnd yes, luckily there are other european royals who support good causes.
Coralie I agree😊
DeleteAt first glance, I did not like Madeleine’s fur shrug or her necklace and bracelets, but taking a closer look, some of the other women are dressed similarly - I think there must have been a retro theme or something like that. The Temperley dress looks beautiful.

I agree there had to have been a theme - 1920s/30s perhaps. The sautoirs many of the women are wearing bolster that idea, to my mind. Even the gentlemen are wearing evening wear that’s reminiscent of that era. Given that, I think the dresses worn for this event look really good.
DeleteI just found the theme on the SACCNY’s site - Gatsby Glamor! I think the attendees really did a great job with their retro choices.
DeleteOn another site they say that the gala event is on a theme “Gatsby”, the roaring 20’s.
DeleteIs it too hard to read in the capture what it is about? "The theme of Gala was 1920" - Gatsby style. I don't understand people who are not reading the capture first.
DeleteThere were surely dress code recommendations. Either one accepts to play the game or don't participate. Ok, once in a while. Fortunately it was not Victoria involved in this event.
DeleteWalchelijk dat ze bont draagt
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, it must be faux fur. However that doesn't solve the whole problem !!
Delete@14:57: How do you know what it is made of? Thank you for proofs.
DeleteWalgelijk is met een c 🫣
DeleteJa heel erg dat ze dat doet, zo onwetend. Ook al is het nep, ze geeft geen goed voorbeeld want mensen weten niet zeker of het nep, zo dom.
DeleteThis is her world. Anne
ReplyDeleteYes, @Anne, it is evident that it is her world, and? It is possible to find it highly irritating, yes, but then, a royal fashion blog is not the right place to spend one's time?
DeleteAgree @15:16.
DeleteHow happy they are.
ReplyDeleteTotal delusional.
ReplyDeleteBien dans le thème, Madeleine est superbe
ReplyDeleteIt is okay, not a fan of the fur shrug. She looks lovely in this colour and fits nicely. I would prefer her hair shortened to shoulder length to frame her pretty face. This length imo hair just becomes an unnecessary accessory.
ReplyDeletePhoto N° 5 is telling me the dress code was 1920s Charleston style.
ReplyDeleteOn photo N°4 her hair is almost hanging in her meal. But she had to do her hair this way to cover her too deep décolleté. The (faux) fur bolero's are probably hired and maybe the dresses too. Or she wore an old fur belonging to her mother Queen Silvia.
Anyway, the whole show is proof of bad taste.
Anonymous 17:16, you are right!
DeleteI agree?
DeleteIf it is a `Gatsby` theme event then the ladies are certainly dressed well. The Temperly dress is a work of art - beautiful.
ReplyDeleteRien à redire ; elle est vraiment superbe !
ReplyDeleteThis is a very generous comment from you.
DeleteThis is a rare miss for PM. The color(or lack of)washes her out. The shrug does absolutely nothing for the outfit. I can’t quite make out her necklace but again, sadly it does nothing for the outfit.
ReplyDeleteLowri.
This Temperley gown is, for my taste, overdone, too much of what makes a romantic evening gown. Less of what is there could give a nice Art Noveau impression, but it is simply too much, as if one has overfed on sweets. Part of it is covered by this Gatsby-esque fake fur, but it does not make it better. As a whole, it is just an awkward composition, needing an interpretation (the theme of the evening), but that does not make it better.
ReplyDeleteNice gown for Madelaine, but this fur piece is out of place. It does not add but take something away from the gown.

I like PM's allegiance to her friends more than the overall outfit. On some level, it seems she chose to fit in appropriately and not outdo her friends, which is a cool. The Temperley gown is lovely but it wasn't a good fit. Her makeup is perfect. She is quite beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThis was me
DeleteWell this is certainly interesting!!
ReplyDeleteWhere is her husband?
ReplyDeleteWhy does her husband have to be there if it's got nothing to do with him? Perhaps he's working, nanny is watching the children. My goodness! ~~Ruthie
DeleteAs a costume historian (and a stage and drama director), I do see the tendency towards a 1920's event theme, but it's very broadly interpreted. Some hit the target rather nicely, some totally missed it, and some managed to stay within the range (more leaning into Art Déco/1930's) at least a little.

DeleteThank you for your well informed contribution, much appreciated.
Pss Madeleine is smashing , like the way she interpreted this themed event.
You’re a costume historian DSC? Fascinating! I read some of the comments saying that all these dresses are fine because they’re dressing in the way of the 1920s… but ladies of class would absolutely not have been wearing necklines such as Madeleines in the 20s! Even in 2026 I would say the top of her dress is poorly constructed and much too revealing. In the 20s it would likely have been a straight line across quite high up on her chest, because the very thin straps would already have been daring enough.
DeletePr Madeleine always so wonderful!
