For the occasion, Queen Camilla wore a long-sleeved pink evening gown by Fiona Clare. She also wore the Kent Amethyst Parure and the Queen Mother’s Art Deco Cartier diamond bracelet at the state dinner. One of the oldest heirlooms in the royal vaults, the Kent Amethyst Parure originates from Queen Victoria’s mother, the Duchess of Kent. Meanwhile, First Lady Melania Trump wore a pale pink gown by Dior.

Wow and Melania looks soo young.
    Beautiful dress (Camilla too).
It's pity many fashion houses don't went to collaborate with her.
But she managed to be the most...

It would profit only the fashion houses anyway, not Melania. There are splendid outfits everywhere, nobody really needs the fashion houses. Without them, the yearly changing fashion dictatorship could maybe stop, for everybody's (and the environment's) advantage ...

Camilla's dress is awful. This is one of her worse looks. I liked the brooch the late Queen wore of this set. Melania wore Ralph Lauren, a dull one and Dior. Melania's dress is fine nothing special as usual. It would have looked better simpler without the unnecessary flourishes. Melania looks every bit her age in random photographers' photos as any rich idle woman.

"It would profit only the fashion houses anyway, not Melania." I'm not so sure about that. Many people might boycott, etc. and depending on the fashion house/designer they may not want *that* kind of attenion. Look at how many artist send "cease and desist letters" whenever the Trumps try to use their music.

  2. High marks to the designer of Melania's gown for originality and contemporary design. It is certainly one of a kind which I do appreciate. The fabric has structure which helps keep the unusual pleats and gathers in place. I like the way it falls from the shoulder over to one side in a waterfall effect. Camilla chose a more conservative gown making an impact with it's hot pink colour.

@11:11, No delicate earrings here, necklace and earrings belong together and are one of the oldest pieces in the royal vault. You can learn about them in the blog The Court Jeweller.

Camillas klänning är oändligt mycket vackrare när tv sände ut en sekvens. Ljusare, skimrar om klänningens utsmyckning i dagsljuset. Färgen är så klädsam, sagolikt vacker.

  11. OMG, the fantastic Kent Amethysts! Yay. I'm over the moon with Queen Camilla's wardrobe (and choice of accessories/jewels) for this visit. As this is also a visit to mark 250 years of independence from the British Crown, not wearing a tiara was absolutely the right decision. Busted out the huge amethysts instead, so well done! I also very much like the Dior dress on Melania Trump. She did so well, too. I'm actually impressed. Happy dance.

    1. If I might add something else to my comment: The queen's dress by Fiona Clare is showing in the upper, embroidered part some stars and stripes (the stars more clearly to see than the "stripes", which are only hinted), also the necklace features stars. That can be seen as a subtle nod to the hosting country. But also, her late Majesty QE II wore the Kent Amethyst Brooch when she visited President Bush sen. in 1991 (the famous "speaking hat" incident) and I think Queen Camilla also wanted to reflect on that by choosing the amethysts here. So cleverly done.

I agree with your observation about the necklace: as stunning as it is in itself, to me it doesn't go well with the beautiful dress QC's wearing. A necklace with diamonds only would have my preference in this case.

Each very beautiful separately, not working together at all. That extraordinary jewellery set would require a simple solid colour (no lace or other frills) to make the most impact. Not a fuchsia heavy laced gown. A potty indeed.

I am a little confused by Melania’s over folded Dior dress. Seems unsure how it wants to be worn. Too many odd folds at competing angles on all sides of the bust. But again, JW Anderson isn’t your clean-cut type designer (I confess I also got similarly confused by his dress that Beatrice Borneo wore at the Rose Ball… so maybe that’s his way of evolving Dior’s legacy? 🤔)

And speaking of Melania, her latest facial “tricks” seem to have worked a bit better, her face upfront seems less frozen than in the past.

Camilla’s jewels are amazing. And Mrs. Trump’s sculptural gown is breathtaking. Such an unusual design could risk “wearing the wearer”, but the First Lady has the height and the posture to not be overwhelmed by a fabulous creation like this. Wowza.

Melania's dress is perfection (for her). Spectacular and subtle at the same time... not an easy task. Really stellar. - Camilla looks good, the diamonds and amthysts are pieces with a long history. I must admit that I would have chosen a soft and very light pastel shade of lavendel/lila/pink for the dress because first, she can wear those colours well and second and foremost, they would be, of course only IMHO, a better fit for these jewels. Melania's dress colour would have been perfect for them, for example.

I see the opposite in Melania’s dress. I see it as very stiff and overdone, and I don’t think pale shades suit her skin tone. I agree that this colour though could also have been lovely on Camilla, but find it fun that she went so bold and has outshone everyone.

    2. The First Lady looks absolutely stunning. Queen Camilla’s dress is also a thing of beauty. It’s a superb colour for her and a style she really suits. Like a number of commentators, I don’t think the jewels, stunning though they certainly are, are a goid match for the dress. It’s been great to see the interaction between President and Mrs Trump and the King and Queen in spite of the much publicised concerns of the commentators.

I love seeing this incredible amethyst demi parure - it is stunning. Kudos to Camilla for letting more contents of the royal jewelry vault see the light of day. The bright pink dress is a bold choice; Camilla manages to carry it off. Melania Trump’s dress is more stiff and structured at the top than I personally would choose, but it looks very good on her.

The Dior dress is beautiful, but I don't think that it suits Melania's figure, especially her wider hips. Nothing wrong with that, just that the proportions for the design are askew. The bodice is beautiful, and looks great on her with her statuesque bare shoulders. I also do not like the long gloves. Bare arms and more skin along the frame would have shown off the dress better.

Camilla's dress looks informal and without much fanfare for a white-tie event. Perhaps a lighter colour for this type of dress style and design would have elevated the look. Speaking of colour, I am surprised to see her wear this colour, and then to wear it for an evening event. Even more surprising, it seems to work.
To me, her look for the evening was clearly about her jewellery, although I find it chunky and heavy, and not a good match for her dress, nice as the pieces might be on their own.

    2. Anonymous29/4/26 17:55

@Anon 9:13: the gown shows the relatively wide hips Melania in fact *has*. Nothing can hide it, it was as much visible in this gown as it was in both skirt suits she had worn previously. Everything that would try to "hide" them would also hide her beautiful narrow waist. It is as simple as that - a wide hip in connection with everything else in place, wide shoulders, slim waist, statesque build is nice. Queen Mathilde is another case, she does have a wide hip too, but also a very slim upper body and no narrow waist. In her case, placing accents make better proportions. But Melania's proportions are really simply nice and feminine.

    3. Anonymous29/4/26 19:59

@Anon 17:55 I wasn't suggesting that Melania hide anything at all, and certainly not her hips. Rather, I'd have preferred that she had chosen a better gown that showcases her shapely hips better. Like the peplum jacket and skirt she wore to greet them, which was perfect. You should not automatically assume that because she has broad hips that I meant that she should hide them.

I am on the fence regarding Camilla’s dress. I find the puff shoulders a bit ‘80’s ish, however having said that she needs them to balance her silhouette. The amethyst necklace gosh if you are not going to wear a tiara, bring out the huge stones, which I find are a nice contrast. It certainly draws your eyes to them, the shear size is so over the top. Melania looks lovely in that shade of pink, very modern youthful look.

Wow Q. Camilla looks even better in this pink color than in the pale pink dress. The dress is beautifully made and fits her like a glove. The only thing I do not understand is why she always has big shoulderpads in all her dresses and the sleeves looks always bigger than the armholes, therefore they must make ruffles to fix the sleeve into the dress. But it is nevertheless a beautiful dress. The amethyst parure is much too big and the color of the stones do not match the color of the dress. A diamond and pearl necklace would look much better and refined (idem for the earrings). It would also match her silver envelope bag.
Mrs Melania Trump looks fantastic in this light pink dress by Dior. The draping in the dress is perfect. She had the good idea to wear white long gloves, especially as she seems to prefer not to wear big jewelry. A pair of diamond earrings and/or a diamond and pearls necklace or a thin golden chain. That is what young famous people are wearing today. Nothing more. Less is beautiful.

Hi Anon 29/4, 16:26 Re the puffed shoulders in Camilla's dresses: my guess is that her dressmaker adds them to bring balance to Camilla's silhouette.
Camilla has naturally slender shoulders which tend to be narrower than her hipline. When she wears a plain design like this (no waist or hip detailing), if you hide the shoulder padding on your screen with your fingers, you can clearly see what I mean. If the padding weren't there, Camilla's silhouette would be A-shaped and her figure would appear wide in the pelvis -- relative to her hips. I have an A-shaped body myself and I also prefer some emphasis/volume at the shoulder level to balance out my hip area - which gives me a more "classical" female body shape; and it wouldn't surprise me if Camilla feels the same way.
If Camilla ever wanted to wear clothes which exactly followed her natural shoulder line, her dressmaker might suggest different shaping in the lower part of the outfit, e.g a wider skirt, to create classical balance in a different way. Lyra

Fabulous!!! Queen Camilla looks marvelous here--this gown might be my favorite in her collection. This gown is fabulous--very traditional and very elegant--and very flattering. The color is also beautiful on her. Those amethysts are stunning and I love them paired with this gown! OK--I'd love them paired with a bathrobe but this pairing is imaginative and allows them to really dazzle. Given that Camilla is wearing a gown with sparkly bodice many of the other necklaces in the royal collection would have either fought with bodice or struggled to stand out--but this is a pairing that allows those gorgeous purple stones to stand out while also allowing the gown to shine too. Melania has chosen a lovely gown in a style--highly structured strapless bodice--that she seems to greatly favor. She looks wonderful but I would love to see her experiment with a softer look.

@15:46- `Tacky all round` - really!!! and no explanation or constructive points to give. I think you cannot recognise elegance when you see it, imo.
I think both ladies look beautiful, compliment each other and have given a lot of thought into their choices. I don`t understand why some think jewels should be of the same colour as the dress, the Kent necklace and earrings are incredible and add just the right amount of contrast.

  26. I understand Melania's Dior gown could cost between $60,000 to 80,000 US dollars, beautiful but I do not understand the cost myself. I understand the First Lady usually get only around $50.000 government funding for her wardrobe, very, very extravagant what she spends. However, with Donald Trump profiting off of the government in the billions, the cost of the dress is a drop in the bucket, plus he is suing someone all the time constantly to line his pockets. JERK

Camilla's look is great. She's a mature woman, not a model. I've gotten used to it, hope others have as well. The colors of the dress and parure - demi-parure -coordinate well. I like her idea to wear the pieces of jewelry that haven't been worn often. Again, Charles and Camilla look great together. Not a fan of the 3 D construction for FLOTUS's dress. 33. politics aside, Melania is a beautiful woman... but that dress does her absolutely no favours at all. I like the dress on Camilla and the colour is great with the amethysts but as others have said the dress is too fussy to make the most of that stunning necklace. a plain hot pink or purple dress with a slash neck would have been much nicer. she still looks absolutely fantastic for her age though.

  34. The Amethyst stones are a lovely color. I find the necklace, chunky and not suitable for the neckline of this gown. I do love the earrings, the brooch with this set, Her late Majesty wore, is a stunner. I like the flow of this gown, but the actual gown not a fan of this on Queen Camilla, regardless of my tastes she does look lovely, I do love the two diamond bracelets she wore. The First Lady looks gorgeous, her gown is edgy, suiting her well. Love the long gloves, this looks so elegant.
