On April 24, 2026, Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako of Japan attended the 20th Greenery Ceremony (Midori) held at the Palace Hotel Tokyo in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo. The “Greenery Academic Award” was presented to researchers who have made outstanding contributions in fields such as botany and nature conservation, with Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi handing over the certificates of commendation.
After the ceremony, the Emperor and Empress met with the award recipients, including Professor Emeritus Yuji Isagi of Kyoto University and Professor Tetsuya Higashiyama of the University of Tokyo Graduate School, as well as individuals who have contributed to the promotion of greening initiatives. Professor Isagi has conducted research on the rare plant kakkosō on Mount Narukami in Gunma Prefecture.

ReplyDeleteEmpress Masako looks wonderful - her suit is full of geometric shapes and suggestions, and I love the colour. What I love even more is how the Emperor's tie is neatly coordinated with her outfit colour. These two are quietly stylish and wonderful.

The black trim of this ensemble, is very effective. The blue shade is unusual, I like it, the overall look is very elegant.
ReplyDeleteExcellent outfits. I always note the “Trompe-l'œil “ hat Masako wears to make her appear shorter than the Emperor as they stand together. This one still has the same illusion of height but is in my view a more beautiful style for her beautiful face.

The theme is botany and nature and the imperial couple has chosen solid, unusual colours, a welcome change, I like the look, reminds me somewhat of the late queen who favoured this sartorial approach.
