On March 23, 2026, the Duchess of Edinburgh and Lady Helen Taylor attended the Reasons for Hope Gala at The Peninsula London in London. The event was held to celebrate the legacy of Jane Goodall, the renowned conservationist who passed away in October 2025 at the age of 91, and served as a fundraiser in support of the Jane Goodall Institute UK. For the occasion, the Duchess wore a silk midi dress by Zimmermann.

ReplyDeleteMais pourquoi donc cette robe fourreau est-elle aussi longue ? Il n’est pas possible de voir les chaussures de la Duchesse !
ReplyDeleteBecause Sophie’s proportions render all dresses longer than the models. The model’s dress comes just above her shoes so with Sophie’s proportions the dress goes past her shoes.
DeleteThis Zimmerman dress of Sophie's, despite its pretty pattern and colour palette, has some odd features.
ReplyDeleteFirstly, I wish it wasn't so see-through. We can clearly see the top of the high-contrast white slip underneath, which finishes at the knee instead of being full length (as if the designer had skimped on fabric). I can see from the model photos that the short, highly visible slip is intentional -- but for a classy, elegant look, I like an underlayer to be subtle and unobtrusive.
My other objection is that the pattern stops half way down the skirt, and also that the white background of the sleeves is only used for the forearm sections. I feel the pattern would be served better if presented in a less complicated way. Lyra
You are right, pretty pattern and colour - perfect for home decoration purposes (curtain/drape ect.). My main suggestion: stop wearing too long dresses and Zimmermann.
Delete@Lyra - I agree with your comment. To me Zimmermann invariably spoils a potentially good design by just going too far to be different. Added unnecessary embellishments, frills, flounces etc. I think a light grey underslip, as that appears to be the colour the colour of the dress, would have been better, and the length mid-calf. Lady Helen looks lovely, casual elegance.
ReplyDeleteI think the fit on the dress is good, but the pale colors and muted pattern aren’t favorable to someone who’s pale with light hair. All of us with that coloring, and especially in midlife, typically look better in brighter colors or a bright lipstick to give life to an outfit.
ReplyDeleteI am glad that she went with a different belt than the one provided by the designer. Other than that, I think it's a good look. Not too over-the-top, not too low-key.
ReplyDeleteI think the dress looks nicer on Duchess Sophie than it does on the model. The fit is good. For me an evening look should be a matter of the ‘devil’s in the detail’. This could have been a perfect look had she managed her hair and chosen earrings to match the delicate dress, rather than the clunky ones she’s wearing.
ReplyDeleteLowri.
The manufacturer has labelled this “hypnotic” but I don’t find it so. Not a particularly colour set for Sophie and not a great fabric/ slip (integrated I think and too white / too short), or design.
ReplyDeleteThe only dress I like was the blue one.
ReplyDeleteI think for a Zimmermann it is a dress that I like. Under such a dress it is better to wear nude underwear (skin color). I do not mind it is a long dress. Others are also wearing long dresses, because it is a gala event. Duchess Sophie's hair is not looking good. I didn't know she has such a high forehead.
ReplyDeleteHer whole face looks somehow longer, the chin area too. No idea why.
