On Saturday, 28 March 2026, His Holiness Pope Leo XIV arrived in the Principality of Monaco by helicopter and was welcomed at the heliport by Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene, as he begins his one-day Apostolic Journey. Monaco is one of the few European countries where Catholicism is the official state religion. It is the first papal visit to Monaco since 1538.
Afterwards, Pope Leo XIV was welcomed by Prince Albert and Princess Charlene of Monaco, together with Monsignor Dominique-Marie David, at the Prince's Palace. Prince Jacques, Princess Gabriella, Princess Caroline, Princess Stephanie, Charlotte Casiraghi, Pierre Casiraghi, Beatrice Borromeo, Louis Ducruet, Marie Chevallier and Melanie-Antoinette de Massy also attended the welcoming ceremony.
The Pope’s visit includes a private meeting with Prince Albert and Princess Charlene at the palace, a meeting with Monaco’s Catholic community in the cathedral, and Mass in the sports stadium. For the occasion, Princess Charlene and her daughter, Princess Gabriella, wore a white bespoke coat and dress by Elie Saab. Beatrice Borromeo wore a lily-of-the-valley pattern bar jacket and flared skirt by Dior. Charlotte Casiraghi wore a tweed jacket and skirt from Chanel’s Métiers d'Art 2026 collection.

De pope is geen god, er is er maar 1 Jezus zoon van God is de weg de waarheid! dit is dwaal leer.
ReplyDelete12:48 I think even the Pope would be confused by your assertion here. He for sure does not think he’s God and nor would he want that role. It’s fun to see what each person chooses to wear to welcome the Pope and hope they all had a good day.
Deleteoh come on! lets be excited for Monaco, the pope (messenger of God, apostle of Christ ) is in town and Charlene and the ladies of Monaco all showed up beautifully!
DeleteAm Happy for Monaco, they waited a long time for the Holy Father, last time was Pope Paul III in 1538, wonderful day
DeleteAnon 12.48 I appreciate and respect your comment, but please not on this fashion page. Thank you. Sincerely AP.
DeleteUPDATE- Princess Charlene and Daughter Princess Gabriella wear ELIE SAAB during the Apostolic visit of his Holiness Pope Leo XIV to Monaco

NOBODY claims that the Pope is God - apart from you!!
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures, very elegant Charlène and Gabriella. And nice to see the whole princely family welcoming the Pope.
Curious, but Pope can't give you that you want Nice visit
ReplyDeleteWhat?
DeleteWhat? Perhaps forgiveness and absolution! Even for that he would need to be with attrition! Or maybe a nobiliary title.
DeletePerhaps forgiveness and absolution! Or maybe a nobiliary title.
DeleteCamille Gottlieb ?? Elle est mentionnée ici dans la liste du 2e paragraphe pourtant elle n'est sur aucune de ces photos. Et je ne l'ai pas vue non plus sur d'autres sites.
ReplyDeleteI think she is on the group photo to the far right side (or, depends on how you see it, the left side of Marie Ducruet).
Delete@DSC - I think that’s Camille’s half-sister, Pauline Ducruet, beside Marie Ducruet.
DeleteNon ce n'est pas Camille.
DeleteDSC 15.37 Looks very much like Pauline on the far right.
DeleteIt must be Camille on the far right, Pauline is much taller. I also saw a picture in instagram where Camille was walking with Pierre and Beatrice.
DeleteChris Levine, the son of Grace's sister, is also in the picture with his wife behind Beatrice and Pierre.
Everyone is dressed appropriately and beautifully for the occasion. I especially like Charlotte's outfit. Unfortunately she has sling back shoes with those thick stockings.
Melanie Antoinette De Massy
Deleteis a cousin to Albert, grand niece to Prince Rainier, she officiates most events in Monaco, she is always present at major events; tennis, circus, national day.
i think only ladies and gentlemen who are married or have been married, so attended, so no Camille, Alex or Pauline present here.
Yes. Correct. It is Melanie Antoinette de Massy. My bad. She has a faint resemblance to Camille Gottlieb, though. Pauline Ducruet, Camille Gottlieb, Princess Alexandra of Hannover, as well as Andrea and Tatiana Casiraghi have not been present for the papal visit.
DeleteAnon at 14:51, thank you for your information.
DeleteI looked second time at the photos in instagram and you are absolutely right. As you say they resemble each other a lot.
Everyone nicely dressed for this special occasion. Charlene’s coat is a good shade of white for her and a nice length. I especially like the photo of Gabrielle being introduced to the pope, genuine smiles.
ReplyDeleteVery proud parents
DeleteIt is the first papal visit to Monaco since 1538...WHY NOW???
ReplyDeleteProbably just a new pope with new choices to make.
DeleteCharlene looks genuinely happy in these photos which is nice. Can anyone outline the mantilla customs and why Charlene wears one inside? Is it that when it’s a private meeting the woman should wear one ,or rather, can choose to wear one), but not in a general crowd eg a mass? Also out of interest do we ever see Albert in a black suit? I can’t recall it, but think he’d look great in black, a change fr his preferred blue.
Monaco is the only state in Europe where catholycism is the state religion. Maybe that's why he comes to Monaco. The ladies all look great.
DeleteDo they go to church?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 16:33, they do, in case there are enough cameras to make photos.
DeleteWhat an honour for Monaco, for the Pope to choose Monaco as his first foreign visit.
ReplyDeletePrincess Charlene looks quite lovely in white, and I like the idea of Gabriella being in a muted shade. The lace trim on her Mother’s dress has been subtly added to hers.
The photo of Princess Gabriella greeting the Pope whilst her parents look on proudly,is beautiful.
I’m sure the Princely Family and the people of Monaco can be proud of the visit.
Lowri.
Photo of Gabriella is cute. From the video I see she has not learnt to curtsey yet, she moved the wrong leg. Plenty to time to learn.
DeleteGabriella's coat or dress is a bit too long and the hemline is uneven. Don't tell me for the visit of the pope her clothes must be longer because for a young girl like she is, it is not required. As long as she is not wearing mini it is OK, I guess. The other female members (except Charlène she is allowed to wear white) of the Monegask family are all wearing a black dress or coat, black tights and shoes and a black mantilla. This was not required any more with Pope Francis. Or did pope Leo restaured the old protocol ? I don't see why Prince Albert must wear a pink tie instead of a black one. I suppose he could have worn a dark tie of any color range (dark burgundy, dark green, navy, .....).
ReplyDeletePrince Alberts tie is yellow. I would think to match the colors of the Vatican flag.
DeleteYes you are right Anon. 05:25 his tie is yellow. The one picture I looked at it really looks pink.
DeleteWhy are you criticizing the clothing of a child?? Have some decency - posters here used to avoid commenting on children’s attire. I would like to see the moderator(s) remove this type of comment. There’s no excuse for this.
DeleteWhat I see from the photos is the genuine appearance of utmost respect for the Pope, including royal parents who have taught their children the same respect through their actions and the appropriate clothing formalities. There is nothing to quibble about the length of Gabrielle's coat. Both children behave in a serious manner for their roles. The Royal family looks wonderful , as does the extended family dressed in solid black . All showing the proper respect for his Holiness.
ReplyDeleteIn 2024 when Pope Francis came to the Heyzel sport stadion in Brussels, to read holy mass for the huge quantity of people everybody was dressed in clothes of all colours. The Belgian royal family was not completely there (some of them are living abroad). Queen Mathilde wore a white pleated skirt and a white bar jacket by Dior and no mantilla, Princess Astrid wore a dark green silk coat and no hat or mantilla. There were so many people that I couldn't see how the rest of the family who was able to be present was dressed. During this visit of the pope to Belgium Pope Francis was visiting also King Philippe and Queen Mathilde in the Castle of Laeken, Queen Mathilde wore a white coat dress around knee length and no mantilla. I agree with the comment of Anon 9:13.
DeleteTo end my comment I would like to draw the attention on the following : King Philippe and Queen Mathilde are known for being very religious. The way someone is dressed is of less importance than how he behaves in life.
Not really related to fashion, but please keep in mind that protocol is never an obligation in the Catholic Church. It is a personal matter as long as modesty is respected.
ReplyDeleteAlso, please do not make comments about how Catholics should feel or behave toward the Church and its ministers. It is something deeply rooted, personal, and sacred, regardless of one’s level of practice and belief.
Everyone has the right to be in the presence of the Pope, no matter any disagreement or distance, or any mistakes or wrongs they may have committed that go against the Church’s teachings. This family obviously cares. Please be respectful of that.
MARIE
Very well said, Marie. I agree with your position, especially the fact that Catholicism, and any religion for that matter, is a deeply personal and sacred matter to the individual, within the broader framework of rules and regulations. Religion is not static either, and no one can proclaim a fixed way for everyone to express it.
Delete- Anon 9:13
Marie, well said. I wish to add that confession is private and Catholics should be given the benefit of the doubt that they went to confession and did their penance. Chris
Delete@ Chris
DeleteMany catholic churches are closed because there are not enough priests to keep them open. Some churches are sold to the town which are transforming the building for all kind of purposes like ressembling people during the pandemic who wished to be vaccinated or organizing charity work, serving to gather people from christian organizations, .... Some churches are only used for funeral ceremonies, ....
I don't know if it is possible yet to go to confession by phone or GSM or whatever ?
@ Anon 19:12, are you referring to Europe or the U.S. where the church buildings are being sold and repurposed? It would be at the archdiocese level where decisions necessitated by change would be made and announced to the parishioners. Chris
Delete@ Chris
DeleteSorry for my late answer.
I am talking about Europe. But I am sure that the Arch bishop has given permission. Sometimes there were 3 churches in the same municipality and only one priest. The poor man drove every day from one church (Parish) to another to do his work and also due to the fact that less people went to church than before, there were also less wedding ceremonies, sometimes a funeral but even these ceremonies are taken place more and more in civil funeral chapels which are runned by civilians. To keep all the older churches open for a reduced public was no longer possible. There was for example not enough money to pay for the heating during winter. A lot of the churches needed also urgent renovation works but also therefore was not enough money. Now that the buildings are no longer used as a real church and belong to the town, I see that renovation works have started.
Jezus walked on sandals.
ReplyDeleteHe also walked on waters
Delete'He also walked on waters' very funny!
DeleteThat is how he looks on paintings by Italian painters during "renaissance" period. He is also painted with long blond hair and blue eyes? But nobody knows how he really looked. There is more chance he had dark hair and brown eyes.....
DeleteMarie Ducruet looks stunning in these photos. I especially like the tone-on-tone pattern of her black dress that gives it extra interest.
ReplyDeleteI noticed that too
DeleteHow marvelous, what a great visit to Monaco, marvelous to see His Holiness. The ladies look respectfully dress and attired. Princess Charlene equally so. The photo capturing the moment Gabrielle greets/meets his Holiness, this is a beautiful image. Little one is so mature, lovely photo.
ReplyDeleteMarie Ducruet for me looks wonderful, she stands out to me here. Beautiful stylish and elegant outfit. Up close the fabric has interesting features, very becoming. Her makeup is on point, she is very attractive.
Lovely! My reaction is classy and someone alrdy wrote very elegant. Yes, very elegant on the part of the whole extended family. Christine
DeleteSadly, not everyone was there. His Holiness did not have to travel too far. Charleen and the children looked lovely.
