King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium are on a three-day state visit to Norway. On the third and final day of their visit, the King and Queen arrived in Stavanger, where they were welcomed by Crown Prince Haakon at Stavanger International Airport. The King and Queen, together with Crown Prince Haakon, visited the Norwegian Petroleum Museum, and the Stavanger Concert Hall. For the occasion, the Queen wore a blue dress by Natan.

Absolutely beautiful outfits for the entire tour by Mathilde. Stunning jewels, most especially the tiara she chose. However each of the outfits outdoors seem somehow a little misjudged for winter in Scandinavia, where boots and coats are normal. That’s not a criticism of her stunning outfits, just an observation of the reality of the season and sartorial expectations in the more casual north!
ReplyDeleteI think Queen Mathilde doesn't feel the cold as quickly as King Philippe. Often between 2 seasons, we can see King Philippe wearing one of his warm woolen Winter coats on top of a suit (he isn't exactly a young man anymore with his 65 years). It is not the first time they are visiting one of the Scandinavian royal families. A state visit is usually prepared well in advance because they must take into account a lot of preparations before they can take a plane to the country where they are invited. In Belgium it wasn't very warm either since Tuesday night. With the wind coming from North-East we also are wearing our Winter coats and woolen jumpers again. The boots are not worn a long time by everyone. Young ladies are wearing their short booties during a longer period. But they are also wearing sneakers and flat fashionable Winter shoes with thick soles. It happened before and it is still possible that we will have a cold Easter.
DeleteThe flower children are so cute.
DeleteNicely dressed I suspect it is a Natan based on the seam on the sleeve. As far as appropriate for the northern weather, they are not outdoors that long and perhaps the fabric is a fine wool so it is warm,
ReplyDeleteFor the final day in Norway Queen Mathilde wore again a dress in woolen jersey crepe in the color royal blue. She wore a navy blue cape to keep her warm. A navy or black (difficult to see) little handbag and navy or black shoes and gloves. Her hat in the same fabric as her dress was made again by her go to hatmaker Fabienne Delvigne. She wore this dress and hat for the first time in september 2025 when Prince Gabriel took the oad as an officer at the Royal Military Academy in Brussels after he finished his bachelor in Social and Military sciences. King Philippe also wore a woolen winter coat with the velvet collar.
ReplyDeleteI think her outfits were adapted to Scandinavian weather. And they were all elegant and beautiful, well chosen.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful outfits for this tour, really - this one is an exception. Difficult for me to grasp why I don't really like it. First, the cape, I simply dislike capes, these formless pieces of garment. The dress: Mathilde is fabulous without a defined/accentuated waistline, here we have a belted accentuated waistline that has never been the best for her proportions. I cannot put my finger on what I dislike about the neckline - I don't like it. The sleeves are too voluminous without defined contours for this volume. This is not her best in classy elegance, I am near to saying: it looks as a whole rather frumpy.
ReplyDeletei was thinking the same. There's something slightly odd about this dress, maybe the neckline?
DeleteNeckline too. But waistline ... does not need to be reinforced, look: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/HEWXfTuW4AEHKnV?format=jpg&name=large
DeleteI've noticed Mathilde seems to favour very complex outfits with a lot of different garments. Combine that with the hats, jewels and other accessorites it must take a lot of time for her to get ready. I appreciate the effort she puts into making her outfits spectacular even though the average person might find them difficult to relate to.
ReplyDeleteQueen Mathilde had her private secretary with her in Norway. I saw a picture of her taken when she entered the dining room where the state banquet took place. She had a shawl and a plastic bag with her probably with the belongings of the queen. She always travels with Queen Mathilde abroad. As a private secretary she has multiple tasks to help the queen when necessary.
DeletePerfection.
ReplyDeleteGreat look for Mathilde, also great color.

From a fashion point of view this visit has been outstanding. From QM arrival in soft pink, to the yellow ensemble, and of course her evening gowns. Now she finishes off in beautiful blue.
ReplyDeleteI take my hat off to QM, walking in stiletto pumps on the cobblestone was no mean feat, and she managed it with grace and elegance.
Lowri.
@ Lowri
DeleteIf you are from Belgium there are still a lot of streets in cobblestones.Queen Mathilde is used to walk with high heels on cobblestones.
Another wonderful, stylish outfit. The blue color is sublime. Her darker shade cape looks good, warm. Her accessory color right down to her gloves perfect! This tour fashion wise has been 100% wonderful. She has looked a dream at every turn. The King, has looked smart and well groomed also.
ReplyDeleteQueen Matilda looks very chic. I like this shade of blue on her and the cape , handbag, and gloves are elegant accessories. Nothing to do with fashion but I love the fact that the king and queen have been married for over 20 years but they still hold hands. There is true affection between them and the press never harped on them about it the way they unfairly did to the Sussexes.
ReplyDeleteLucky the press in Belgium is softer than in the U.K. All the negative things concerning Harry and Meghan which have been published by the press in the U.K. is partly repeated by the Belgian press too but always mentionning the name of the newspaper which published it first in the U.K. and always in a neutral way.
DeleteAlliances, never seen before;) A very strange world we live in!
ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful outfit from Queen Mathilde! I have loved all of her day and evening looks on this trip. She looks lovely in this blue Natan dress. I wish I could see more of the dress but it does appear to fit her well and the waistline is very well done for her as this belt is much better suited to her figure than many she wears. The little ones with the flowers are adorable! It is so nice to see Mathilde and Philippe holding hands as they are walking along.
