King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium are undertaking a three-day state visit to Norway from 24 to 26 March. On the evening of March 24, 2026, King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway hosted a state banquet at the Royal Palace in Oslo in honour of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde. The tables in the Grand Dining Hall at the Royal Palace were set for 184 guests. Crown Prince Haakon was also present at the state banquet.
Queen Mathilde wore the Nine Provinces Tiara and her diamond fringe earrings, along with the Order of St. Olav. Queen Sonja wore Queen Maud’s Pearl Tiara and her Drapers’ Company Brooch, along with the Order of Leopold and the Royal Family Order of King Harald V.

Mathilde looks beautiful - gorgeous dress and updo, and her tiara looks exceptionally sparkly.

Indeed! I love the simplicity of Mathilde's look, especially the unfussy design of her gown.
DeleteI note her wrist and hands are relatively free of jewels -- an unusual choice, yet this in no way detracts from the overall sparkle of her look. For me this appearance is 10/10. Lyra
Yes, Queen Mathilde does this regularly. When she is wearing the complete tiara (the diademe which rest on her head + the upper part which can be taken off) and the earrings, she usually does not wear a necklace. When she is wearing the fine tiara that once belonged to Queen Fabiola she often wears earrings and a necklace too. Maybe because her wrists are covered with the lace of her sleeves she didn't wore a bracelet. From what I can see she doesn't even wear a ring except of her wedding ring which she never takes off (a simple golden ring without any fantasy).
DeleteWhere is the Crown Princess? Surely, here she could have turned up since it does not require her to travel.
ReplyDeleteFashion wise, both royal ladies look fantastic.

The Crown Princess is borderline terminally ill. HRH was present at the photo op earlier in the day, even though she was not scheduled to attend. She does what she can.
DeleteI doubt that we know how ill exactly she is and I think it is not appropriate to gossip about the stage of that illness for which she gets the best of treatments. - But what we know definitely is that the Royals restrict her public appearance because of her friendship with Epstein. Without judgement about that friendship or about her not cutting ties with him, it is simply a fact that at this point of time, it is no doubt better for the royal family if she is in the background. No need to use that illness as the real reason.
DeleteMM is so ill she has started using oxygen when needed obviously her illness is progressing. Give her a break.
DeleteAnon 10:36. Totally agree with you.
Delete@ Anon. 10:36
DeleteThe royal palace of Norway has already communicated that she needs a lung transplantation. There is no secret about her illness. It cannot be cured with medication any more. This has nothing to do with the other problems she has and has been communicated before anything about the Epstein affair has been published.
@Anon 16:11: I know what cystic fibrosis is, also about therapy options and life expectancy. But let's please stick to the sober facts: she refrained from public duties and appearances exactly parallel with the publication of the Epstein files (except she made an interview about it). I am completely sure her illness is real, and I am sorry for that. But I am also sure that it gives the royals an opportunity to give her disappearance another name because it is possible to do that.
Delete@ Anon 16:56 - how wonderful you know what cystic fibrosis is! But, that is not what HRH CP Mette-Marit was diagnosed with nearly 8 years ago. The Crown Princess suffers from Pulmonary Fibrosis, and she has had lengthy periods since her diagnosis when she was out of the public eye, because she was undergoing treatment for her illness. To imply you are in possession of the “facts” surrounding that illness and further to imply it’s being used for cover for something else, is honestly sad.
Delete@ Anon 05:58,
DeleteThanks, I viewed the posts on the blog in reverse chronological order. I did comment on the post of the day event, that it is nice to she she attended, as well as that I had commented before seeing the day event post.
I am aware she has an illness, however, I did not know it has advanced to terminal stage. That changes everything! We were then blessed to have seen her at the day event.

16:56 you didn't get one right
Delete10:36 is quite mistaken. If we're gonna spread "facts" let them be true. MM was introduced to E from several friends working within global health organizations. These were people she trusted and relied on for their judgment, but she takes full responsibility for not checking him out better herself. She has no longer contact with these people. She says no one should feel sorry for her, but the victims that was abused and wants justice for them as she say so far they have not gotten that. She also feel aweful if she has helped give him legitimacy in any way. She never saw anyone being abused or heard about it. And she DID cut of contract with him and she says:I still didn't know anything about all the abuse. But I had understood enough to think he was a bad guy who people shouldn't have contact with. And I had seen up close how he blackmailed others. So I regret not telling more people, because I should have. Ps the royals do not restrict her appearance her health does. She has full support from her husband, the King and Queen. As she say:they are the most wonderful in-laws in the world and have been very supportive of me through this. I am very grateful for that...It's so easy for us sitting behind a PC judging people. We weren't there we so do not know what happened in any situation for anyone except ourselves only what we think we know based on what we have read. We shouldn't judge people more than we want to be judged ourselves for our own mistakes and faults. And who of us haven't met people and had friends who turned our to be something else then we thought. MM haven't done anything that we haven't. She haven't abused anyone. Haven't broken any law, only trusted the wrong people and showed bad judgement. What are we doing? The big debate should be how can people who are working helping vulnerable women and girls in developing countries be friends with such a man. Where is the medias uproar? Where is ours? Oh, we are more upset and judging someone who was duped...
DeleteAlways feeling appreciative that whenever Scandinavian monarchies hosting state banquet, they would often posed and released beautiful glamorous photos to commemorate the official state visit and in welcoming their royal guests.
ReplyDeleteQueen Mathilde made the right choice to wear a repeat gown back in 2019 during the enthronement of the Japanese Emperor, while the NRF are better known for embracing sustainable fashion by rewearing and styling.
King Philippe looking smart and I like the way he posed himself on the last photo.
Queen Mathilde in an Armani Privé gala dress which was new for the enthronement of Emperor Naruhito of Japan in October 2019, looks very regal.
ReplyDeleteQueen Sonja looks lovely in her gala dress with a soft pink skirt and lace bodice.
I always like King Philippe in his gala uniform, which is simple but classy, compared to other gala uniforms of European monarchs.
Great gown from the RL, the Tiaras are fantastic.

Queen Mathilde looks beautiful in the rewear of this gown. She looks immaculately groomed. Her choice of jewels, perfection. I especially love the diamond earrings, perfect length, love the design of these diamond earrings, such sparkle. Really love the up style hair, beautifully done, incorporated well with the tiara.
ReplyDeleteQueen Sonia looks equally lovely. I love her diamond brooch and 4 strand pearl choker, beautiful, equally her tiara.
Love the group photo, they are all very nicely dressed
ReplyDeleteYes. The group picture with that pink-orange sort of glow looks really, really good.
Yes and no Rosella. The "9 provinces tiara" of Belgium is composed of two parts : the part which rests on the queen's head in fact is an Art Deco diadem and is worn often as such by Queen Mathilde. The upper part can be taken off but cannot be worn separately as another diadem. It can be attached to the Art Deco diadem and the 2 parts together are called the "9 provinces tiara".
Delete@ Anonimo 17:48
DeleteGrazie mille per l’ottima spiegazione.
I found a detail which I had not seen at first. Queen Sonia is wearing on the purple sash of the order of Leopold a brooch which ressembles a lot the waterfall brooch Queen Mathilde sometimes wears and once belonged to Queen Fabiola.
ReplyDeleteThe group photo is enhanced by the sheer splendour of the setting.
ReplyDeleteQM never fails at State Dinners. She looks quite stunning. My only gripe is I wish she had other tiaras at her disposal. I have often thought how magnificent she’d look in the Spanish tiara once gifted to Fabiola. This look is one of those times As beautiful as the nine provinces tiara is, it looks like two different tiaras put together. I also wish it extra detail at the sides, where you can see the arches end. But, QM makes it work, with the ribbon diamond earrings she’s a vision.
Lowri.
@ Lowri
DeleteQueen Mathilde has 2 other tiara's
1. The Laurel Wreath tiara which was a wedding present from the Belgian Aristocrats when she married King Philippe.
2. The fine diamond tiara by Belgian jeweler Wolfers which once belonged to Queen Fabiola.
3 With the "9 provinces tiara" which can be worn in 2 different ways she has in fact 4 tiara's at her disposal.
The other tiara's (and other jewelry) Queen Fabiola had were reserved in her testimony for her Spanish family. Nowadays they are sold by auction at Sotheby's, Christie's, etc... because Queen Fabiola's family (nephews and nieces) cannot wear these valuable tiara's and jewelry. They are not reigning royals and prefer to sell these beautiful jewelry, which they inherited legally.
If you google "Queen Mathilde's tiara's and jewelry" or "Tiara's of Belgian Queens" you will find a lot of information about tiara's and jewelry which once belonged to Belgian Queens and have dissappeared slowely but surely.
