King Frederik X and Queen Mary of Denmark are on a six-day state visit to Australia. On the sixth day of their state visit to Australia, the King and Queen arrived in Hobart, Tasmania, where they were officially welcomed by the Governor of Tasmania, Barbara Baker, and her husband, Emeritus Professor Don Chalmers, at Government House in Hobart. At Government House, the King and Queen also met the Governor’s border collie dogs, Oskar and Nala.
The King and Queen also attended a traditional smoking ceremony, led by Aboriginal representative Graeme Gardner, marking respect for the land and people of Tasmania. The Governor and Professor Chalmers accompanied the King and Queen at the smoking ceremony. The King and Queen then visited Alum Cliffs Marine Reserve and INCAT Shipyard in Hobart.
King Frederik and Queen Mary will tour MONA with its founder, David Walsh, and attend a pop-up concert by the Danish electropop duo ROYA in one of the museum’s exhibition spaces, before later attending a state reception hosted by the Governor of Tasmania, Barbara Baker.
