On March 22, 2026, Belgium’s King Philippe and Queen Mathilde attended a ceremony at Brussels Airport commemorating the 10th anniversary of the 2016 terrorist attacks in Brussels. Thirty-two people were killed and more than 300 others were injured in the 2016 suicide bombings at Brussels Airport and Maalbeek metro station. The King and Queen also met with those affected who were present.

This hairband or half hat or whatever it is keeps her hair back and thus does not allow the usual outward-turned curls and I am wholeheartedly for Mathilde without out- and upward turned "duck tail" curls! Looks so much better. Not much else is visible, but in all probability she looks solemnly elegant.
ReplyDeleteA very sad commemoration of the Terrorist Attacks at Brussels Airport in Zaventem and Metro Maelbeek in Brussel (22 March 2016). King Philippe held a speech in the three national languages French, Dutch and German and also in English. In his speech he also remembered the police, the firemen, the military who were on duty that day. He also spoke with the survivers of these terrible attacks. Many of them stayed invalid and handicapped for the rest of their life. The prime minister Bart De Wever and the minister of justice arrived together with the king and queen. The king and queen talked with the families of the deceased
ReplyDeleteAlthough the king and queen and the ministers were well dressed in black, fashion did not really matter today.
A lot of pictures about this commemoration has been published in a lot of news papers and on the most websites and blogs concerning the royal family.
.
Fashion is *always*, per definitionem, secondary to any of the occasions royals take part in or visit. But our admin and we all are engaged with this unimportant secondary affair of fashion - and I for one do not like to be told that I am not serious enough about the Brussels attacks because I have something to say about whatever Mathilde is wearing.
DeleteAnon 18.20 Thank you for the intel. This was very interesting to me. You covered it so well. King Phillippe by the sound of it, gave a excellent speech. Its very sad the devastation and after effects on the victims, not to mention the loss of life. Such terrible violence.
DeleteThank you @ Ava Pittman. You seem to understand what people who lived in the neighborhood of the Brussels attacks remembered yesterday. You know one of the terrorists was able to walk away disguised like a tourist. People were not allowed to go outside their house. In many houses the police came in to look if he was not hidden somewhere. The children in the schools were kept inside the building whole day long. The parents or grand parents couldn't get there when school was finished in the afternoon at 15:30 to pick their children up. Around 17:00 the police allowed the parents to take their children home. The road to the airport was closed for traffic. The road from and to the City was closed too. It looked a bit like a war situation. In these difficult times with everything what is happening in the world today people have much more fear.

DeleteNobody called you or anybody else that your are not serious enough.
People who lived it 10 years ago have still fear it can happen again, especially with everything what is going on in the world lately. In these circumstances fashion doesn't come in the first place.

DeleteThank you for your vivid description, this must have been a nightmare to all the people involved and so sad It produced such devastion, lives lost forever and seriously injured victims.
My thoughts and prayers are with all of them and their families.
I'm going to view King Philippe's speech asap, too.
The human race hasn't learned anything from past tragedies, the world is being putting upside down yet again, a modern danse macabre nobody can escape from, so sad, so harrowing.
No fashion review from me, not now, not on this post.
Thx P. the original
Deletefor your kind words.
Anon 07.36. I wonder if the Terrorist that escaped as a tourist was every tracked and caught? So very alarming, how terrible. I cannot begin to imagine the damaging mental scarring for the children involved, especially the delay which I fully understand in not having the security and comfort of their parents till later. Always in our prayers, thoughts and hearts. I'm glad the King and Queen were there for their people, never forgotten. Let's hope this does not happen again. Thank you for the information, I had no idea, whatsoever. Sincerely.
DeleteThank you, @ Anonymous 15:07.
DeleteI found King Philippe's speech in French...just poignant, words that get straight to people's hearts ...and to mine, as well.
Given the ongoing worldwide turmoil , nobody is safe anymore, for all possible reasons , not only due to terrorist attacks.
Destructive forces won't prevail, that's what I wholeheartedly hope and pray for.
As King Philippe said: we won't forget, nobody will forget.
And I add: we won't forget in any country and wherever the principles of civilization still survive.
An attack to a democratic nation is an attack to the very heart of each and every nation sharing the same values.
That's why unity and resistance are so crucial to fight annihilation.
I think this is a perfect style for QM. She has the height to pull off a longer skirt. The jacket gives her shape.
ReplyDeleteLowri.
She doesn't wear a longer skirt. Her skirt ends maybe 7 cm under her knees.
DeleteSuch a sad event but, as usual, the King and Queen are dignified and respectful. I like Matilde’s outfit..it’s subtle and classy.
ReplyDeleteQuel triste souvenir. Josée.
ReplyDeleteThis outfit is very dignified, elegant and stylish. The jacket fits perfectly. Love the style of skirt, and the length. She is tall and carries this so well. Her hose is a good color. The shoes and clutch, perfect. This was a very sad occasion and she looked a class act.
ReplyDeleteBel équilibre entre la veste et la jupe ; bon choix que la couleur des collants !
ReplyDeleteHumankind and Planet Earth are thirsting for nonviolence and peace.
