The Emperor and Empress Receive Nepal's President Ram Chandra Poudel

Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako met with Nepalese President Ram Chandra Poudel and Sabita Paudel

On February 3, 2026, Japan’s Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako met with Nepalese President Ram Chandra Poudel and his wife, Sabita Paudel, at the Imperial Palace. The President and First Lady are visiting Japan at the invitation of the Japanese government to mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Nepal. The meeting lasted approximately 25 minutes.

    皇后陛下の着物には竹が描かれています。
    そして帯には羽を広げて飛ぶ鳳凰が織り出されています。
    鳳凰と竹は縁起の良い組み合わせとして、古来より格調高い着物や帯の模様に用いられてきました。
    また、鳳凰は皇后の象徴でもあります。

    I love the traditional dresses. I wished that the first lady of Nepal would have removed her jacket so we can see the silk and the ornaments of her dress. CC

  4. The Empress looks beautiful, so graceful and elegant. The Kimono is beautifully crafted, so well explained by Anon 13.34. Its so interesting the process of painting and background information of the symbol. The colors of the Kimono are soft, and pretty.
