On February 23, 2026, Emperor Naruhito, who turned 66, attended various celebratory events at the Imperial Palace. In the morning, he greeted the public from the balcony of the Chowa-den Hall at the Imperial Palace, accompanied by Empress Masako, Princess Aiko, Crown Prince Akishino, Crown Princess Kiko, Princess Kako, and Prince Hisahito. Following the public greeting, a State Banquet hosted by the Emperor was held.
On the occasion of his birthday, the Imperial Household Agency released new photographs of Emperor Naruhito with Empress Masako and Princess Aiko. The photos were taken on February 17 at the Imperial residence in Tokyo. In the photographs, the family is seen talking about Tina and Milo, the mascots of the 2026 Winter Olympics and 2026 Winter Paralympics, as well as the 1998 Winter Olympics and 1998 Winter Paralympics.

حذفThey all look very elegant, but sometimes I feel a bit sorry for this imperial family. Everything looks always so very formal like the pictures on a birthday which are always the same. Sitting next to eachother with a book. Or standing on a balcony or in a big room.with an enormous distance to the people.

The Empress looks very elegant in this cream colored ensemble, beautiful fabric. Her pearl necklace is a lovely addition. I like the color of her pantsuit, lovely shade of blue.
