On February 18, 2026, Queen Máxima of the Netherlands attended the opening of the new theatre of KamaK in Hengelo. KamaK is a professional theatre company whose actors have intellectual disabilities. Each year, several productions are developed and performed with the support of a team of theatre makers, music teachers, and numerous volunteers.

Following the official opening ceremony, KamaK’s actors performed several scenes from their current production, “The Tulip.” The play tells the story of a tulip that is driven away and sets out in search of a new place. The story symbolizes the journey KamaK has undertaken in establishing its new theatre. After the performance, Queen Máxima spoke with actors, staff members, and volunteers in the workshop.

She was born to do this job ... I don't even mind if she - at least partly - acts, because if she does, then she does it extremely well. And this is why it is secondary for me what she is wearing, I love to look at her. - But this little confession aside, I love this quirky ensemble on her and though I don't love it, at least I don't mind the hat keeping her hair out of the way. This is one of the few cases where an overall pattern does not overwhelm anything else, because it is so delicate. Dark blue and gold work so well together.

Lovely 19:08! I welcome back an extravagant Max outfit after a long pause! The theatre must have been thrilled with her attendance and the gorgeous vibrant outfit.
