Bhutan's Royal Family Attends the Inauguration of the Ugyen Norlha Chorten

On February 21, 2026, King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Queen Jetsun Pema, accompanied by their three children — Prince Jigme Namgyel, Prince Jigme Ugyen, and Princess Sonam Yangden — as well as other members of the royal family, attended the inauguration of the Ugyen Norlha Chorten and the groundbreaking ceremony of the Gelephu Chorten, marking significant milestones in the development of Gelephu Mindfulness City.

The Ugyen Norlha Chorten, dedicated to Guru Rinpoche’s manifestation of prosperity, was inaugurated as the first sacred landmark completed within GMC. Built to commemorate the birth of Princess Sonam Yangden Wangchuck, the Chorten stands as a symbol of auspicious beginnings and embodies the vision and aspirations of Gelephu Mindfulness City.
