On January 2, 2026, Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako, along with Emperor Emeritus Akihito and Empress Emerita Michiko, attended the 2026 New Year General Public Greeting at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. Also in attendance were Princess Aiko, Crown Prince Akishino, Princess Kiko, Princess Kako, and Prince Hisahito. The Imperial Family extended New Year greetings to the crowd that gathered at the Imperial Palace.
Among the members of the Imperial Family who attended the ceremony and waved to visitors from the palace veranda were Princess Akiko, Princess Tomohito, Princess Hisako, and Princess Tsuguko. Prince Hisahito, the son of Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko, who is currently a first-year student at the University of Tsukuba, attended the New Year’s event for the first time.

Wonderful to see. I’d love to learn more about the positions of the hands, gloves and fan in these traditions!

Ah thanks Anon 9:13!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful in blue! Great tradition by the Royal family!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos and lovely to see some vibrant colours
ReplyDeleteSome beautiful colors on display, numerous shades of various blue's gorgeous colors. Lovely display of jewels on display, loving the pearl necklaces and chokers. Very elegant look for the Imperial Royal family.
ReplyDeleteThey all look great. I don't know how the Imperial Household rules work, I suppose I could try to research rather than post that, but all the colors look pretty. Christine
ReplyDeleteI was trying to say I don't know the approval process...the colors are pretty. Christine
Always classic. All the Imperial ladies look stunning.

As we’ve come to expect and appreciate with H.I.M,elegance and personal style. She knows what looks good whilst keeping to the ‘uniform’ of the Japanese royal court. The color is beautiful and stylish on her. Minimal jewels, going with the less is more. Perfect!
ReplyDeleteIt was lovely to Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko there and looking well.
Lowri.
