Princess Irene of Greece passed away at the age of 83. She was the younger sister of the late King Constantine and Queen Sofía of Spain. The announcement of Princess Irene’s death followed news that Queen Sofía had canceled her royal engagements in Palma de Mallorca to be by her sister’s side as her health declined.
Princess Irene’s death was announced by the Greek royal family on January 15. The statement said that Irene passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at 11:40 a.m. local time at the Zarzuela Palace in Madrid, surrounded by her loved ones. Princess Irene never married and shared a close bond with her sister, Queen Sofía.

Heartfelt condolences to all the members of the Spanish Royal Family.
ReplyDeletePrincess Irene had such a remarkable personality and led such an eccentric/ nonconformist and inspirational Life.
She was a free spirit, selfish and fond of meditation.
A brilliant mind, too.
I would have liked her and shared some aspects of her character for sure , if I had had the luck to meet her.
A well spent Life , full of personal accomplishments.
R.I.P., Madam, surrounded by all deserved honors and tributes🙏🌹

Selfish?
DeleteYes, she seemed to be selfless rather than selfish. It’s an easy typo to make!

DeleteVery sad news from Spain (and Greece, and Denmark), indeed.
ReplyDeleteIrene had her own style, colourful blouse with pants. In her younger days she was very fashionable. Perhaps her years of living in India influenced her choices later in life. She was an accomplished pianist. I especially like the blouse in the second photo, nice colours for her complexion. Always a pleasure to see her with her sister and the kings family.
ReplyDeleteMy condolences to the family and loved ones of Princess Irene. I feel especially for Queen Sofía as not only is Irene her sister but HM has also recently suffered the losses of dear friend, Princess Radziwill, and her brother, King Constantine, as well.
