At the ceremony held in the Aula of the university building, the Queen was presented with a diploma and a silver key to be worn as a lapel pin. The key is designed after one of the original keys from 1668, with its shaft shaped like half of a sun taken from the university’s spire.

In 2022, Lund University decided to establish an honorary membership (hedersledamot), awarded to individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to public or private activities and who have been of great significance to Lund University in particular, as well as to society as a whole. The first recipient was former Swedish Prime Minister Ingvar Carlsson, who was appointed an honorary member in 2024.
