On the occasion of the New Year, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium held a New Year’s reception for the heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Brussels and their partners. The traditional reception took place at the Royal Palace in Brussels on January 8, 2026. Another reception will take place on Tuesday, when the King and Queen will welcome representatives of European institutions based in Brussels.
The Queen looks lovely in this pastel color, beautiful shade of pink. The blouse is beautiful, very pretty, feminine and elegant. The skirt I would like to see a frontal view. Love the color of her shoes and clutch.

ردحذفOne must not forget the big community of international diplomats who are living and working in Brussels. They are the first which are received by the king and queen. The reception for the people working for the European Comission and the reception for the military officers at NATO will follow. Last but not least the king and queen will receive the Belgian Ministers and State Secretaries to close the 2026 new year receptions. During the year King Philippe and Queen Mathilde receive the governors of the different Belgian regions and the mayors of the Belgian cities and towns.
حذفI quite liked the first picture - thinking it was a floor-length dress with a coordinated bolero jacket. Turns out it´s a tucked-in blouse combined with a maxi skirt, and I like it a lot less. The proportions are off. Mathilde should avoid any designs that have a clear waist line because they always end up very high on her. Anyway, I like the colour and the monochromatic approach, and I don´t mind the two different fabrics. Would be a timeless, classic and very feminine silhouette if it wasn´t for the high waist.

حذفThat’s a beautiful colour for Mathilde and she looks very beautiful. Re the Natan skirt design, although it’s luxurious in its drape, paired with this shirt it looks unfinished at the top. I think it would look better with a waist band. Sonetimes I get the feeling that Natan likes the tailoring and sewing shortcuts, but I don’t think their garments look particularly good for it. Alternatively, with the unfinished look at the top of the skirt, Mathilde could have chosen to wear a belt over it, or to select a slightly different blouse to hide the lack of water band - however I think she’s wearing the ensemble as Natan intended it, so it leaves me again with the sense of unfinished work by Natan. ( Teacher’s report: Natan shows great promise but will do much better once he learns to focus until the end and finish with excellence.)

ردحذفA lovely outfit - but not good for Queen Mathilde. It is too high waisted. Only a tall, very slim lady can wear this style well. She is better off sticking with classic simple styles . This does nothing for her silhouette.
ردحذفCe rose pastel lui convient à ravir mais à mon avis, la jupe trop ample et asymétrique a la taille qui monte trop sous son buste ; dans un style plus près du corps, elle aurait meilleure allure !

Some prefer to wear black during summer and some never wear black unless for special occasions. Times are over that lighter colors like pink, turquoise, light blue, etc... cannot be worn during winter.
حذفI like the color, but the skirt is too stiff. There’s no movement, it looks like it’s been starched into submission. I like the blouce and QM accessories.

Those skirts are made of silk. Sometimes silk is very thin and has more movement, sometimes silk is thick and is chosen because the dress or skirt must keep its shape. Silk cannot be starched one would see the stains of the starch.

It is a typical Natan construction, straight sewn seams, letting the fullness, angle of the fabric create the shape. Definitely a unique way of design, however it doesn’t fit or contour to a body that has shape. The colour is lovely however the waist line needs something, it doesn’t give a good silhouette
ردحذفQueen Mathilde wore this skirt and blouse at the state visit of the Italian president to Belgium last year. She had similar skirts in the past. Personally I do not like skirts or dresses with an uneven hemline. I also prefer Queen Mathilde in a dress or a pencil skirt with a jacket. The pink color is a lovely color for the queen. I think her clutch is by Armani as well as her shoes which seem to be covered with silk. I think she is wearing pink quartz earrings.
ردحذفIn the meantime I found out that Queen Mathilde's skirt is made of Shantung silk and that her earrings are made by Belgian jeweler Leysen of diamonds and kunzite and are named "Mathilde".
