King Frederik X and Queen Mary of Denmark are undertaking a two-day state visit to Estonia at the invitation of the President of Estonia, Alar Karis. On the evening of 27 January 2026, President Alar Karis and First Lady Sirje Karis hosted a concert and state banquet in honour of King Frederik X and Queen Mary at St Nicholas’ Church in Tallinn.
For the evening event, Queen Mary wore a midnight blue silk organza dress by Prada, which she has worn on previous occasions since at least 2015. She also wore the Wedding Tiara, the Order of King Frederik X, and the Order of Terra Mariana. The antique jewels were gifted to Mary by her parents-in-law, Queen Margrethe and the late Prince Henrik, on the occasion of her wedding to Frederik on 14 May 2004.

I think Queen Mary looks very elegant at tonight's banquet. At first I thought the neckline was a necklace, but it adds just the right amount of sparkle without having to wear additional jewelery. It was nice to see her wedding tiara again. I believe this is the first time she has worn it since she became Queen.
ReplyDeleteThis is the best use of her wedding tiara since her wedding. The gown is nice, but boring. The First Lady’s gown is nice but boring.
ReplyDeleteI cannot agree that Mary looks boring. The dress is quite simple without much adornment, yes - but it makes it a perfect backdrop for the embellishments she does wear and makes it a stunning choice. Wearing tiara, diamonds, medals and sashes does demand a relatively simple dress to be really balanced and effective.,
DeleteIt was a wise fashion choice to wear minimum jewellery, it would have clashed with the bejewelled collar. Hats off to QM wearing a dress that is a decade old,and yet looks like a new addition to her collection.
ReplyDeleteLowri.
Lovely ladies. MR
ReplyDeleteWow!!! Queen Mary looks gorgeous! I love that she is wearing her wedding tiara because she is in a country in which her hostess does not have glamorous jewels. I think her choice of a simple gown with a beautifully embellished neckline is a great way to add dazzle without adding more jewels from the Danish vault. Finally, her earrings are a bit more of dazzling diamond jewelry but are, for a queen, rather simple like her tiara. And, as usual, King Frederik in his uniform looks so handsome! Together, Mary and Fred are a very good-looking couple.

Well she has had her cheeks plumped up.....
ReplyDeleteI think that too, which is sad...
DeleteShiney and new…
DeleteAgree !!
DeleteFirstly, I thought the neckline was a actual necklace!!! (need to change my glasses!) but its obviously embellished neckline, interesting addition.
ReplyDeleteThe dark blue silk gown by Prada, looks subtle, and elegant. Fits beautifully. A good choice no brooch the neckline is enough, not quite sure how I feel about the embellished finishing touch. The solitaire diamond earrings are a good size, of quality, plenty of sparkle. Her diamond tiara perfectly positioned, sits well. Her hair styled accommodates it well and looks soft and flowing natural.
The First lady looks lovely, her gown is simple and clear cut lines, looks wonderful, suits her beautifully. I love this refreshing color. Her earrings look to be single pearls, great size. Her bracelet is interesting, I like this piece, its unique and different. I do love her hair in this style, suits her well, lovely cut and shape. A very attractive First lady.
Heureusement qu'elle n'a pas de broche ! Il y a déjà des médailles et un ruban, c'est bien assez surchargé comme ça !
DeleteStop colouring your hair, Queen Mary, you look crazy in that!
ReplyDeleteAgree!! The same for Prinsess of Wales. They have good hair colour of their own.
DeleteAgree! The same for Prinsess of Wales. They have good hair colour of their own that suits their complexion.
DeleteSays the person who sounds crazy......
DeleteWhat does this comment mean?
DeleteMary is nearly 54 years old and probably has lots of gray hair. Nothing at all wrong with that and there is nothing wrong with her coloring her hair either.
Delete!! Free choice about how she wants to look !! No judgement !
DeleteHer hair is not crazy nor crazily coloured. Some of these photos have lighting that makes her hair look coppery… whereas others don’t.
DeleteI was just thinking how frustrating it is for royal ladies in their 50s to read 05:22, if they do ! I hope they don't. I count 5 of them, incl Qn Mary, and incl Pr Charlene (48) Pr of Wales (since she is mentioned), Pr Sophie (Lichtenstein) and possibly others.
DeleteSo elegant & stylish !
ReplyDeleteWhat is it with the European royals these days. They almost all wear black or navy clothes.
ReplyDeleteGreenland?
DeleteWell, it´s winter. And both black and navy blue are timeless colours that work for most people and in most circumstances. I don´t feel like we´ve seen an unusual number of dark outfits (given it´s winter in Europe) but if you want an interpretation, I´d say that dark, muted colours are the right tone for a world at the brink of total chaos.
DeleteLove the response Vanessa. I would add that dark colours like this deep blue look fabulous on Mary and have been very popular for formal evening wear for the last 30 or so years.
DeleteI couldn't agree more with you this time, @ Vanessa
DeleteMy thoughts exactly: the world is on the brink of total chaos or anomy.
Too bad.
Queen Mary looks very lovely and elegant. The dress looks sleek and the color makes the sash stand out. Also like her soft hairstyle.
ReplyDeleteKaarin
Trop de contraste entre sa couleur de cheveux et ses sourcils !!
ReplyDeleteThe dress and silhouette is beautiful - Mary has a great figure and this shows it off wonderfully. Hair is nicely styled however I do feel the copper tones are a bit overwhelming…being naturally this shade myself it is very difficult to get things right without it coming out a little too ‘orange’. Otherwise this is classic elegant Mary!
ReplyDeleteThe copper is an effect of the lighting not hair.
DeleteNobody looks really happy...
ReplyDeleteIt’s a formal event and possibly the photographer snapped the photos during a moment of waiting.
DeleteSmall wonder, isn't it?
ReplyDelete@ P the original - qu'est-ce que 'anomy'?
ReplyDeleteVery very interesting that scandinavian countries are getting in touch for closer neighbourhood!!!
ReplyDeleteWorld changes due to........................
CP Victoria has always been good friends with CP Haakon long time before there was total chaos.
