On January 5, 2026, King Frederik X and Queen Mary of Denmark hosted the New Year’s receptions for the judges of the Supreme Court, the officer corps of the Royal Life Guards and the Guard Hussar Regiment, as well as mayors and chairpersons of regional councils from across the country. The receptions were held first at Christian VII’s Palace and subsequently at Christian VIII’s Palace at Amalienborg.
Later the same day, King Frederik and Queen Mary hosted a New Year’s reception for the diplomatic corps at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen. Today, the Queen did not wear a tiara, but she sported earrings from the Pearl Poire set of jewels, which date back to the 1820s. She also pinned the Order of the Elephant on its light blue ribbon under her jacket.
I think she should have put the sash on the outside, not the inside. It looks odd to me.

ReplyDeleteShe has not been photoshoped, clearly In her and king you can saw imperfections, wrinkles. But IMO it's important what you don't see, that's is love, glow in the eyes and so lot's of passion.

DeleteBelle couleur bleu nuit et superbe tissu en velours. L'ensemble est un peu strict mais il convient parfaitement à l'occasion. J'aime bien l'encolure (presque un col Mao) qui se prolonge sur le côté avec un boutonnage discret, c'est un léger clin d'oeil aux uniformes des officiers.

Dear Paloma, Mary has no choice, it is all about the protocol of the crown and not about possible sartorial minimalism. She does not represent herself and her various orders are obligatory, even if you fancy that she could do without.

This deep blue velvet outfit looks stunning, though the blue sash worn on the underneath is a puzzle. The gloves and the deep Navy colored small evening clutch I saw somewhere else that the Queen carried, lovely addition. The earrings are beautiful, wonderful size and stone.

HM Q Mary is wearing the star of the Order of the Elephant, the family order with the portrait of her husband the King, and one other order. They’re not optional, as they’re part of the dress protocol for this event, and none of them is a stomacher.

Queen Mary's sash is worn underneath her jacket for the same reason the King wears his sash underneath his. Queen Margrethe when wearing a jacket would do the same.

Since she is wearing often gala outfits in 2 or 3 pieces, I was wondering if the navy blue velvet gown with the navy blue lace was worn underneath the navy blue velvet jacket on January 5 ? Maybe not, it could be a new outfit made of a skirt and jacket. The golden silk skirt and lace top she was wearing at the reception and banquet of January 1 is made exactly the same way as the navy velvet skirt and lace top. I prefer the navy velvet and lace combination the best, because it fits the best of the 3 possibilities. The velvet jacket is a bit too tight to wear as a jacket, maybe she is wearing it just as a top.

There is no visibile work done on her face.
