Maybe it's only me, but even if it is fake fur (it is), I don't know if it is the best of ideas for a child to wear this kind of animal pattern. It has just so many ungood repercussions. At first I thought it must be one of Charlene's jackets on Gabriella, but it is is meant for children. - Jacques is getting more and more attractive - I admit I never found him overly good looking, I mean: just a normal child, but his face changed so much lately, as if everything cleared up and found its final place in his face, he looks very nice now an friendly looking too. Charlene is her ever elegant self with a beautiful scarf - a pity that less and less women seem to wear silk scarfs - though they make you feel cosy and warm in the cold season too, it does not have to be a tent wrapped around one's neck.

I knew the moment I saw Gabriella's jacket that there would be someone that thought a child shouldn't wear it. Here we are, the first comment. No one would be confused as to whether this is real or faux fur. The print has an exaggerated look and the color is atypical, not to mention that almost all the royal families have stopped wearing real fur. I don't understand the problem. Catherine wore a faux fur collar to Together At Christmas and no one had a problem with it. Charlene's coat has a faux fur collar, Jacque's jacket has faux fur trim around the hood, and there is a woman in a full fur faux coat visible in photos 6 and 9. You make no mention of any of that fur. Is it because Gabriella is a child, because it is an animal print, both or neither? There are a lot of brands that have similar faux leopard jackets for girls. I could put link after link to show you. I see a little girl that is wearing trendy yet age appropriate clothes. She has coordinated the collar of her jacket and her boots. I suspect she has a say in what she wears and she is a budding fashionista. I look forward to watching her style develop as she gets older.

Now the most disturbing part of your comment--you are discussing the physical appearance of A CHILD! It is so, so bad when the physical appearance of an adult is judged, but a CHILD? Regarding Jacques, you "never found him overly good looking" but now it is "as if everything cleared up and found its final place in his face". So glad you think "he looks very nice now and friendly looking too". I'm afraid to know what you decided his personality was up until today. These are children, thrust into a very public role. They have no control over their birthright or their physical appearance. No one could ever expect children to love having to appear in public, interact with crowds of people and pose for photographs that will be published worldwide. That is an enormous amount of pressure for anyone, but especially a child. Now throw in comments like yours. Can you not imagine the harm remarks like yours can cause? Even if Jacques and Gabriella don't read this themselves, they could have friends at school whose parents see it and mention it (this blog is seen internationally) and it could actually get back to the children. How do you think a child will handle criticisms when it is difficult for adults to develop a thick skin? Try to imagine a stranger making similar remarks about your child, grandchild, niece or nephew. It would cut like a knife. Now imagine how your child would feel to hear what people were thinking about their perceived unattractiveness. Absolutely shocking and unacceptable remarks!

Lastly and most unimportantly, you lament that less and less women wear silk scarves because "they make you feel cosy and warm in the cold season." May I remind you that that is the exact reason faux fur is worn? Faux fur is nothing more than a type of fabric, just like silk.

This winter the boutiques are full of fake fur made of polyester. One can find these coats and jackets as well for adults as for kids. It is normal when kids see these clothes they want to have a jacket or coat like this. They know it is not made of the skin of real animals, because it is a subject of which they heard at school and if you are a caring parent you have to tell your kids that wearing real fur is not done anymore, just like it is not done to damage nature in other ways.

I don’t like it when commenters go after each other for their opinions about outfits, but to say that you didn’t find a young boy “overly good looking” is quite disturbing. I’d suggest that you keep comments on adults only.

But that’s ok Froufrou. Different people may read here on different days, or notice certain characters here in photos more than others. If a princess wears something it’s more likely to be seen and commented on.

Anon 1641, my grandma had a fox stole as well with the little feet. She lived in a very cold climate and in those days animal skins were worn to keep warm, this was well before synthetic fabrics existed. Perhaps it was the fox that got into the hen house. For me patterned animal skins never appealed to me, perhaps because it is exotic.

Paloma.

Nicely dressed, for me I do not see the allure of wearing faux fur animal print. It’s okay but not for me. Love the scarf that Charlene is wearing.

I agree; it would be wonderful if more women here in the U.S. became interested in wearing lovely scarves (scarves seem to be much more of a wardrobe staple in Europe). There are so many gorgeous colors and patterns, in all fabrics and price ranges — one doesn’t have to be a princess to afford one (although I imagine that Charlene’s is probably of the finest quality and priced accordingly). With regard to animal print faux fur, I hope that, as we who remember the days when real fur was worn routinely leave the scene, and as the killing of animals for their fur becomes (hopefully) more and more a thing of the past, animal prints and faux fur will gradually cease to be associated in people’s minds with cruelty, but like botanical prints, will be seen as simply celebrating the beauty of nature. — Jane

  12. Charlene and Jacques are wearing real fur. And even when it was fake fur, can people for once please understand that it does not matter when you wear real fur or not, because most people do not know whether it is real or not, you just should not promote it, is it that difficult to understand?
