On December 26, 2025, King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Queen Jetsun Pema, together with their children—Prince Jigme Namgyel, Prince Ugyen Wangchuck, and Princess Sonam Yangden—visited the fourth Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) Volunteer Programme in Gelephu. On the final day of the programme, His Majesty granted tokha to the volunteers.
More than 10,000 volunteers from across the country took part in the programme, carrying out zhabto at multiple sites. Participants included Desuups, Gyalsups, Pelsups, students, and volunteers from the private sector, non-governmental organisations, monastic institutions, and the armed forces, as well as residents of Gelephu and other parts of the country.
The Zhabto programme involved work along the Lotus-Born Trail, following the historic route taken by Guru Rinpoche from southern Bhutan to Bumthang in the eighth century, as well as along the Mindfulness Trail. Activities also included environmental and site development at highway corridors, parks, wetlands, and river areas within the GMC.

ReplyDeleteI find it interesting that the little princess wears western clothes. They have a protocol for national dress, does anyone know why she dresses differently.

I don't know why she's in Western dress -- I've only seen her in traditional dress in the country before.
DeleteWith littlies, the traditional female clothes, which are a wrapped skirt and jacket don’t really stay on! This is a practicality. The traditional dress is required of adults in certain venues eg temples, government offices, but hard to wear and not expected of the littlies.
DeleteBoth the gho and Kira aren’t as comfortable as they look. My family and I visited Bhutan a few years ago and tried them on. In fact I’m surprised the little prince wear the gho as often as we see in pictures.
