Following the Accession to the Throne, Grand Duke Guillaume and Grand Duchess Stéphanie are undertaking a series of courtesy visits to the neighbouring countries of the Grand Duchy, as well as to the Benelux partners. On November 19, 2025, the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess visited the Netherlands. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima welcomed the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess of Luxembourg at Noordeinde Palace. The visit concluded with a lunch in honour of the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess of Luxembourg.

The two ladies could have disappeared somewhere in the palace for a short while taking a seamstress with them, Máxima telling her: "please the same length for the Grand Duchess like I wear, but quickly", then magic could have happened ... because this dress on Stephanie would be fabulous in just-under-knee-length. The top part of the dress, the colour are so nice, the hat so pretty - look at pic #5. - Máxima is perfection.

حذفGreat idea. Maxima is fabulous and GD Stephanie, bless her, is really making an effort. The top of the coat is great, the hat, shoes and bag are all good. Unfortunately, the coat is too long and the colour too pale.
حذفThe Queen and the Grand Duchess are wearing totally different garments though. It is inappropriate to shorten the Grand Duchess' coat-dress because it is meant to be worn outside in the cold. Whereas the Queen wore a coat (outside) on top of her dress (that she revealed inside).

ردحذفI’m not sold on the asymmetrical collar on Stephanie’s coat dress: in the very least she should have worn a brooch on her left shoulder where there’s an obvious gap for it in the design. Perhaps the lovely pearl fleur de lis brooch of the Lux grand-ducal family? I also think her hem is a tad too long for her frame, and the hat’s strap is showing in photos, not great. But her smile is always just perfect, she smiles with her eyes!
I agree, a lovely brooch would have given the ensemble an extra touch.
حذفI certainly like the cheeky little hat. The dress could have been a tad shorter, but these extra long styles seem to be en vogue at the moment
and we might get used to them.

@Dear Virginia, the problem is not that we are not accustomed to this length ( because we definitely are). Being accustomed does not make it look better on her - too much volume everywhere down to her feet. With a knee-length skirt there is less width and volume and more beautiful legs --> better proportions.

ردحذفStephanie has a lovely dress and it is constructed perfectly to suit her figure. As for her hat, the bow looks a little odd to me perched on the top of her head like that. Perhaps if she wore that hat in a different way so that the bow was positioned differently, or else have the hat without the bow. But in any case, these styles of hat suit her better than some of the brimmed styles that she wears.

حذفMaria Teresa wore no dresses like Stéphanie. At least not during the last years. She wore a lot of pants and long tunicas or blazers. She wore sometimes ethnic long cotton dresses during summer and during holidays. When she wore long evening dresses she looked sometimes very good. I remember when Maria-Teresa was on state visit in Belgium with her husband she wore no bad outfits at all. Pants which were not too wide under a beautiful coat, etc... GD Stéphanie should try to find a style which makes her look narrower and longer. I am afraid by wearing wide long dresses she will not achieve this goal.

ردحذفThis coatdress is much too long on Grand Duchess Stéphanie. Also, the collar detail - I have nothing against asymmetrical design in general - looks not quite right on it. Au contraire to others here - I like her hat. Queen Maxíma just her usual self. No complaints.

ردحذفLa robe de Maxima lui va à la perfection, j'aurais juste aimé que la partie drapé ne soit pas si longue mais plutôt à la même hauteur que l'ourlet de sa robe. La pochette et les escarpins sont chics mais je n'apprécie pas la cape ni cet immense chapeau (ceux plus petits lui vont mieux, il me semble).

I am very interested by the consideration given to the longer length clothes worn by so many current royals. On this occasion I think that the Grand Duchess's coats width is balanced by the length. Regarding the Duchess of Edinburgh 's recent post I loved the beautiful white dress but thought the Etro dress looked almost old fashioned with the short length. Perhaps it is a different story about what is fashionable around the world?
ردحذفYou have fashion on the one hand and you have what you will do with it on the other hand. In the first place you must look at the person who must wear the fashionable dress or skirt and jacket or pant suit. Is she a short person or is she tall ? Is she skinny or is she rather looking a bit fuller. In the case of GD Stéphanie who has an average length it is better not to wear long midi or ankle dresses/skirts. The dresses/skirts should not be too wide either because she is not very skinny. If she wish to wear pants the wide fashionable pants do not suit a short person, which does not mean one must wear skinny pants either. Pants which are slightly flared are the best solution. Dark colors always give the impression to a person of being less full than light colors. Long tunicas or jackets must be avoided for short people. Can you imagine a long blazer with 2 short legs underneath ? Applying fashion by taking into acount all these caracteristics is not always easy, but a good stylist must be able to do it. He/she will always look which fashionable colors suit the person he must give advice. Now that it is winter Stéphanie would look better with a darker color instead of those light colors she is wearing since she is the Grand Duchess. I know she looks good with dark green and which is also fashionable this winter.

حذفSomebody needs to have a word with the Grand Duchess. Today in most of Europe the weather was winter, I woke up to it trying to snow in London. She needs teal blue, rust red, burnt orange, holly berry, silver grey, burgundy, purple or sapphire blue. And cashmere, fur, mohair, velvet, silk satin and wool jacquard. Baby pink is for small girls in late spring.

Pink is number one! among others things, a baby pink velvet headband for cold weather. I hope you will reconsider your prejudices because it would be a pity to restrict yourself in this manner.

حذفI agree on the color not making any sense or doing her any favors. I had the same comment when she wore that pale blue outfit recently. She’s pale so brighter, cool colors would enhance her beauty. Bright pink in this same outfit would look great.

ردحذفStephanie I feel is struggling as to what suits her. For an outfit to look it’s best,it starts with the under garments,they give you the shape for the dress to work its magic. But even with the right under garments this dress is ‘too’ everything! It’s too long! It has too much billowing material. The hat without the bow might have helped save the look. The color pink is too pastel for the time of year. Maybe an autumnal color might have helped.
On a positive note,her amethyst and diamond earrings are beautiful as his Stephanie smile.

I agree with those who think that a shorter, slimmer skirt would have made the GD Stephanie’s coat dress much more flattering. The big bow on her hat, to me, is unfortunately positioned in such a way as to create an almost comical effect, and I very much hope we will not be seeing it again. — Jane
