  1. its the duty of the Imperial ladies to preserve the culture of Japan, but the guests seem to be more respectful of that culture by wearing traditional kimonos, which are far more beautiful than the outfits the Imperial family are wearing.

  2. The empress looks exquisite in the lovely blue of the well tailored suit. MR

  4. It is amazing how of the two red suits, one looks more youthful in its design. So nice to see Aiko in a dark colour, and her two tone shoes, wow what a pleasant surprise. The side closure of the jacket on the empress is nice along with the piping. So many suits, all in the signature style of the Japanese court yet all so different and elegant.

  5. I must say, everyone looks splendid ♥️ but my favorite is Aiko’s vibrant red (what would it be called — cranberry?) outfit. Head-to-toe perfection; she looks stylish and adorable. — Jane

  6. Mostly a typical fashion outing!
I do, however, always love how the emperor wears a tie matching his wife's dress!
Princess Kiko looks adorable - that wide skirt gives her outfit a little playfulness! And, as always, her smile is contagious!
Another standout is the princess (anyone know her name?) wearing the lovely pink suit: beautiful colour!

  7. I didn't know the Japanese royals had garden parties. Pardon my ignorance, but I thought it was a British royal custom. It's the same with the hats. I thought It was more of a British thing. I stand corrected as everyone including the gentlemen look so formal and smartly dressed. 1500 guests! Very impressive.

  8. I didn´t realize the Japanese did garden parties.
The ladies´ suits are nice designs but I think that often have a poor fit. Too long, too loose, too wide shoulders, too long sleeves (and simply folding them up is a surprisingly imperfect makeshift solution). I like Kako´s red suit best.
