On October 12, 2025, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, together with Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía, presided over the ceremony of tribute to the National Flag and the military parade held at Plaza de Cánovas del Castillo. Upon their arrival, they were received by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, along with senior State authorities and members of the Government.
Following the parade, the King and Queen, accompanied by their daughters, hosted the traditional National Day reception at the Royal Palace of Madrid. October 12 is a national holiday in Spain, officially known as Fiesta Nacional or Día de la Hispanidad (Hispanic Day), which commemorates Spain’s historical and cultural legacy, particularly in the Americas.
This family always dresses so nicely. The texture of the fabric for the queens dress and the sleeve ends add nice detail. The length of the dress, the little black belt are perfect. Sofia’s dress is a nice style for her however just below the knee would be more in proportion. I know she is young and this is how they wear their clothes but it is not necessarily the best look. Leonor in her impeccable uniform. And the king as always perfect. I do like the orange and white outfit, I bet it looks better in person than photographed.
ردحذفI agree with all you say. HRH Infanta Sofia’s dress has been heavily altered: the Carolina Herrera website shows it with a deep additional tier, making it a midi length. The proportions are so much better with the extra length. It’s not terrible on the Infanta, but longer would have been stunning on her.

ردحذفSofia est mieux sans la cape (je crois qu'on ne va pas échapper au gang des capes tout l'automne et l'hiver ! Je ne ronchonne pas, c'est de l'humour).
Sa robe aurait pu être jolie (j'adore les pois) mais la partie jupe est trop large et trop courte à la fois ce qui donne l'impression d'une robe de petite fille, ou d'un tissu qui a rétréci au lavage, dommage. Sofia aurait été plus en valeur avec une robe un tout petit plus longue et un peu plus étroite.
J'aime beaucoup la belle femme brune en robe bleu marine, la belle femme blonde en robe rouge et aussi celle en robe bicolore noir/blanc, que d'élégance ! C'est agréable de voir de si belles tenues. Paloma.

Letizia's green dress is very pretty, but I would shorten it a bit - below the knees.

But the ladies at the event are beautifully dressed: a lady in navy blue midi dresses, blondes in red dresses and black and white dresses. Stylish simple elegance, this time even the royal women were overshadowed.
(Only the woman unknown to me in the red dress next to the princess Leonor looks "drowned" in too much volume of the dress and in her hand with a bag - good for shopping in a supermarket .)

I think if it wasn't for the shorter length, Sofia's dress would look matronly. I honestly can't see a young girl wearing it at all. She has done the right thing and chosen adorable slingback flats. The shorter the hem, the lower the heel. I would imagine the cape is borrowed from Letizia, which is fine. She may not own an appropriate coat and Letizia is smaller than she is. The cape makes sense because it will fit her even when she is a different size. When saying something these young women are wearing is inappropriate, we should always keep in mind that we were all her age at one time and we wore what was in style--even when our mothers and grandmothers didn't understand the style or like it. We were allowed to be young and these young royals should be allowed to do the same.

@Anon 21:17: same here - I don't like Sofia's dress at all, not in long and not in short, but if long, the white dots could not have saved it from looking like a huge volume of black fabric without identifiable details. With short hem, it is at least not so overwhelming, more Sofia, less blackness. I also cannot see anything girlish in it (except the girl Sofia herself :-).

ردحذفAs for the totals, I like the shade of green on the queen. I find the polka dot fabric a bit too light, but that's my opinion and princess Leonor great in her uniform.

Some stunning outfits here. The off the shoulder deep blue dress is divine. As are the red dress and orange coat. The Queen’s green dress is fab, and Sofia shows how to wear a cape beautifully, with her sweet dress showing through.

What a strange comment. It is not about the uniform of the heir to the trone but about the dress worn by Sofia. A dress that is not age apropriate and she is the only one who is wearing a cape/coat. It can't be that cold already in Spain. She used to wear better outfits lately. Now that she started higher education she cannot return to a dress in this childish style.

The green dress is looking good on Queen Letizia. It looks like the fabric is a kind of tweed or woven fabric which give the impression of wool. Very stylish.
ردحذفPrincess Sofia was dressed better lately but here she returned to the style of dresses she wore 2 - 3 years ago. The dress has not a good shape for her. She looks much better in column dresses or pant suits. The cape doesn't suit her either and does not match the dress. The shoes are matching the dress but not the cape coat.
CP Leonor is wearing her uniform. Not much to tell about fashion here.
The lady on photo N° 9 wears a beautiful red dress. The asymmetric style of the dress suits her very much. Isn't she a minister of the Spanish government or the wife of the prime minister Pedro Sanchez ?

I love Letizia's forest green dress especially the 3/4 length sleeves and the square neckline. The fabric is perfect for autumn. It is so elegant and the thin black belt looks great.

It is a breath of fresh air to me to see the queen wearing a fitted dress which skims her figure and shows it off, instead of more bulky, drapey and voluminous styles which are so on trend, but which can easily overwhelm her slender frame and hide her lovely shape. As I recall, she used to wear tailored fitted styles a lot about 20 years ago, and I would love to see her reclaim this styling which is so uniquely becoming for her. Lyra

It must be difficult for Sofia to walk in her sister's shadow. Princess Leonore is poised and preparing to take the throne some day. She always looks beautifully groomed whether in uniform or civilian clothing. Sofia's dress is not a good choice for this National ceremony where she is on immediate display. Too short, and ruffles add too much bulk. Sadly, the hairstyle does not flatter her face. Try pulling it back and do away with the middle part.

ردحذفI got back from Ibiza and Barcelona yesterday and weather was pretty rainy especially in Ibiza, more changeable in Barcelona.
I wasn't that hot and a cape is not so out of place on Infanta Sofia.
The dress length is a tiny miss on her but nowhere near to making all this fuss about.
All the family looks splendid and there is a clear bond of affection amongst them.
I think Sofia is trying to adjust to her new life as a student abroad, she may be in a delicate phrase of her life (which I know so well) and she has to carry out her royal duties at the same time.
She is just being herself and should be granted some more time.
