Queen Margrethe Pays a Two-Day Visit to Rome, the Capital of Italy

Queen Margrethe visited the Museum of the Ara Pacis and the Oval Fountain

As Patron of the International Association for Classical Archaeology since 1975 and of the Danish Institute in Rome since 2011, Queen Margrethe of Denmark undertook a two-day visit to Rome, the capital of Italy, from October 24 to 25, 2025. The Queen visited the Museum of the Ara Pacis, where she was welcomed by the Chair of the Board, Mads Kähler Holst. The Queen also visited the Oval Fountain, one of the most impressive fountains in the garden.

On the first day of her visit, Queen Margrethe visited the Danish Institute in Rome. Upon her arrival, the Queen was welcomed by the Institute’s Chair, Mads Kähler Holst, and greeted, among others, the Minister of Culture Jakob Engel-Schmidt and Denmark’s Ambassador to Italy, Peter Taksøe-Jensen. The first day of Queen Margrethe’s visit concluded with the presentation of the Queen Margrethe Roman Prize at the Danish Institute.

  2. Both outfits are very nice. She is often bold in her choice of jewellery and those green earrings are great. She shares the interest in archeology with her grandfather, the late King Gustaf VI Adolf, who was a keen archeologist.
