King Frederik X and Queen Mary are paying a two-day State Visit to Latvia, at the invitation of the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs. On the second day of their visit, King Frederik and Queen Mary visited Ādaži Gymnasium, where they met with a class of students participating in a mandatory national defence education course. The initiative is a key focus area in Latvia and was established to strengthen national security and societal resilience.
Upon arrival, the King and Queen were received by President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs, Mayor of Ādaži Karina Miķelsone, and a representative from the youth organization Jaunsardze. During their meeting with the students, Their Majesties had the opportunity to learn more about the background and content of the course, as well as the students’ own experiences with the programme.
Afterwards, King Frederik and Queen Mary, accompanied by President Rinkēvičs, visited Ādaži Military Base, where they were received by the Chief of Defence, Major General Kaspars Pūķāns, and Major General Jette Albinus.
Later, the King and Queen visited the Danish military facility Camp Valdemar, located adjacent to Ādaži Military Base. Camp Valdemar was built as a permanent base, underscoring Denmark’s commitment to NATO’s Forward Land Forces and the defence of Latvia.

Love Mary's outfit! I wish I could see the belt better because it really makes the look with the boots and long, full skirt. Gorgeous colors - great look!
ReplyDeleteMary looks bulky in this outfit, BUT..she is obviously dressed for warmth so the bulkiness is totally understandable. I like her top, and especially the belt.
ReplyDelete- Anon 9:13
Is there any specific reason why someone cannot wear a voluminous skirt in autumn? Bulky is the skirt, not Mary. Big difference.
Delete@Anon 19:05 No I can't think of any reason, but since you asked I'm guessing that you can and can't wait to tell us. Are you testing us? lol.
Delete- Anon 9:13
Interesting bulky debate. I think if she were not wearing the belt the skirt and jumper would marry better together. Mary does not need to define her waist to look slender even with a generously voluminous skirt.
DeleteDear @Anon 21:42, yes, she does not need to. But her outfit needs it because when to define the waist if not with a wide skirt, I would say. She would look like a sausage with this jumper worn outside of that voluminous skirt, so the belt helps to keep her natural waist visible. But OK, we agree to disagree, I just wanted to say why I think she did it. She is really one of the few who knows how to build a unified outfit out of single components.
DeleteQ M has a stylist!
DeleteMary holding the gun in that long skirt, perhaps the most unique Royal photo ever!
ReplyDeleteYes !
DeleteOnly Americans could find this nice. I think weapons are repelling
DeleteI love her outfit, it does not always have to be trousers among soldiers. Catherine wore a slightly similar outfit some days ago, the essence of it being a long woolen/warm skirt. Mary's is a bit better, maybe because of how she "composed" the whole outfit to be harmonious. So I like it very much. As so often, Frederiks "breast muscle" posture with his arms behind his back and legs wide apart makes me laugh out loud. I can't help it. He could - royal women are probably also taught how to stand and sit and move appropriately - not because you are a royal, but because you are in surroundings where you are photographed all the time.
ReplyDeleteHe is in a military stance, having been in the navy it probably comes naturally to him.
Delete16:25 he’s standing in a military environment and defaults to his military training.
DeleteDear Anons 19:23 an 21:43, there are a lot of other kings and princes with military training behind them and a couple of them longer than Frederik ... I just allow myself to think that this is an example of male behaviour well-known in the animal kingdom, of which we are an organic part. Of course no offence meant with this remark, it just makes me giggle each time I see him standing like a male peacock showing off his best feathers.
DeleteWow, that’s a meme-worthy photo of Mary with the machine gun (or whatever; I really don’t know what to call it even). The next time the tabloids make headlines about Frederick’s roving eye…!
DeleteMany people feel that way, and it is frustrating to watch this continue, like a catastrophe waiting to happen. The peoples in Europe have expressed their hopes for deescalation and raised their voices for peace, yet the political leaders are set on their path towards war.
It is important to react to this militarisation, to never let it become normal. Therefore, I cannot look at these photos and contemplate outfits. Instead, I have a strong reaction to the alarming militarisation we are witnessing.
And I am convinced that the royals have a say. At the very least they have a say in what´s on the program for these visits, and overall they have a strong platform to advocate for peace (probs to Mathilde!). They also have the possibility to not receive criminals (Albert+Charlene), they have the possibility to not be advocates for the military, and they have the obligation to be moral leaders. Of course, many of the royals we so enjoy following will fail as they have already subscribed to evil. They are a part of the power structure in the world and thus part of the problem.
I agree AstridB. I find it very confronting. I realise the royals are sent by their governments and there are specific messages in who they meet while on foreign tours.
DeleteLadies, I guess you all know the geographical situation of Latvia?
DeleteÀ country with a threatening neighbor.
You cannot close your eyes for the realty.
And, by the way, the Danish monarch has no power at all, just some influence .
And, by the way, I think Mary looks quite good!
Love the top half, especially the interesting belt, but the long huge skirts this season are just so hard to style. The Queen makes it looks the best so far but not sure I’m going to add it to my closet this year!
ReplyDeleteAlso want to I highlight the blonde woman with the beautiful burgundy coat and hat. Fabulous!
Everyone playing war games. I understand when the regent is the formal head of the armed forces and has both the need and the necessary training to be involved with military exercises. But to put queen consorts in military gear (Maxima) and let them play with automatic weapons (Mary) is quite ridiculous to be honest. It serves the sole purpose of advertising for the military.
ReplyDeleteIf the people in power deciding about war would be out fighting on the front lines like kings/leaders did centuries ago, I´d be more convinced about their integrity, but that would never happen today. Today, the elites watch the conflicts they caused (or failed to prevent) play out and reap the profits. They are unbothered by the fact that their actions force millions of innocent people into stupid unnecessary wars to die or worse.
I couldn't agree more with what you wrote!!!
DeleteYou expressed it all so perfectly!!!
AstridB
19:14 it hurts my mind and heart too.
DeleteWell at least they are informed what weapons a country has to defend its citizens. Yup would be nice if we lived in a different world where borders were respected.
DeleteI love the outfit, its well put together. The jacket, belt, shoes, skirt and blouse, all well co ordinated, looks stylish and elegant. Her gloves match the color of her jacket. Lovely color. The skirt particularly I love, it is a good design, plenty of flare and can be worn for all sorts of occasions, very versatile.
ReplyDeleteUn look coordonné qui convient bien pour cette occasion !
