On October 3, 2025, Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume ascended the throne of Luxembourg after swearing an oath in a traditional ceremony, and his wife, Stéphanie, became the new Grand Duchess of Luxembourg. In the evening, Grand Duke Guillaume and Grand Duchess Stéphanie hosted a gala dinner at the Grand Ducal Palace to mark the accession to the throne, attended by guests and members of the Grand Ducal Family.
Among the attendees at the gala dinner at the Grand Ducal Palace were King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium with Princess Elisabeth; King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands with Princess Amalia; the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, and his wife, Brigitte Macron; and the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, with his wife, Elke Büdenbender.
What a special day for Luxembourg, an era ends and a new one begins! Congratulations to the new Grand Duke and Grand Duchess 🇱🇺 ✨️🎉
ReplyDeleteThis occasion was definitely a family affair and I loved it. It was great to see the whole Grand Ducal family come together and also be joined by the Dutch and Belgian royals.
Given tonight's ascension gala and all of its tiara looks I want to be able to comment on everyone's looks, so I'll try to be very brief. I definitely missed not seeing Princess Alexandra at tonight's dinner but it's understandable given her pregnancy.
Grand Duchess Stephanie: The new Grand Duchess looked beautiful tonight. It's her first appearance with the Belgian Scroll tiara and matched with those diamond earrings both look fabulous on her. My only critique would be her dress, which i was very surprised she chose to wear the same gown for the morning ceremony. I love the color and the flowy skirt but the top looks like an armor suit.
Grand Duchess Maria Teresa: The Grand Duchess looked very elegant for tonight's banquet. She wore one of my favorite tiaras in their collection, the Grand Duchess Adelaide tiara. In my years of royal watching I don't think I have ever seen her wear this tiara so it was a nice surprise.
Princess Claire: We got a tiara debut from Princess Claire wearing the Chaumet emerald tiara for the first time. I'm not fan of her dress, but the color is nice.
Queen Maxima: Her Majesty brought out the big guns for this special occasion pearing Queen Emma's Sapphire tiara with her dark blue gown. I wouldn't have worn the large brooch given in her chest, it's a bit much.
Princess Catharina-Amalia: Her Royal Highness was absolutely stunning tonight, her dress and jewels get a 10/10. We had another tiara debut from Princess Catharina-Amalia wearing Queen Emma's diamond tiara. Emerald is such a beautiful color on her.
Queen Mathilde: Queen Mathilde continued with the red theme through the evening. While the color is pretty the style of her gown is not my favorite.
Princess Elisabeth: The heirs did not come to play, they stole the show tonight. The Duchess of Brabant looked very elegant, her glittery gown and jewels were one of my favorite looks of the night.
One thing I love about the Grand Ducal tiara collection is how big it is. With this said it was a treat to see Archduchess Marie Astrid of Austria, Princess Margaretha of Luxembourg, Princess Diane of Nassau sporting different tiaras and jewels.
Tonight's honorable mention for me would have to be Princess Sibilla of Luxembourg. Her pink cape gown looked very regal. The Art Deco tiara is such a beautiful piece and it matched really nicely with her ruby necklace.
Well, at least Claire wore a dress! But what an ugly one... I don't understand it. Claire is a natural beauty, she is feminine and elegant, but what was she wearing at this festive occasion?

Maxima looks incredible - perfect outfit and hair, exquisite jewels. She looks every inch the queen. Amalia and Elisabeth also look so confident and beautiful, with wonderful dresses that suit them and lovely jewels.
ReplyDelete-Royal Watcher
Beautiful gown although I was rather hoping for a different gown for the gala dinner and seeing the famous tall tiara
Froufrou
It must have been wonderful to see all of the celebrations. Very elegant gowns and fantastic jewels. Pss's Amalia and Elisabeth looked sensational. GD Stephanies hairstyle is very nice, maybe she wears it like this again. Don't know what Pss Claire is wearing? it looks like a long flair nightgown; she really could have done better. Pss Alexandra must be due soon.
ReplyDeleteSo nice to see everyone. Nice to see Germany represented as well. Must say Manuel Macron sure like the camara. Brigitte Macron looked nice the color of the gown is very nice.

Mathilde looks beautiful. Love her dress!
ReplyDeleteAgreed - love her dress.
DeleteAn event dripping with luxury, riches and well, money. The last photos of the tables, flowers, walls show what I sometimes forget when observing royal fashion regularly here: so much privilege. Stephanie looks her normal gentle sweet self in a dress which is beautiful for her. I love that she is using the creation longer in the day, by wearing it also for the evening; it’s one less excess. Her tiara hair is as good as I’ve ever seen for her, absolutely lovely. The princesses from Belgium and the Netherlands have done superbly, I slightly prefer Elisabeth’s choices which to me are more in keeping with her age. The queens are great.
ReplyDeleteYour criticism regarding riches, money, luxury misses the point of this historic event; the participants REPRESENT their specific countries and their place in history, probably their domestic designers, certainly their crown jewels, it has nothing to do with personal glamour or wealth, many of them are not even rich.
Delete🌞 Virginia
@"one less excess": oh yes, fully agree with that. And it must have been a conscious decision, knowing that others would handle it differently.
DeleteThe Belgian Scroll tiara looks wonderful worn by the GD Stephanie, not a fan of her gown, very matronly, the color blue is gorgeous. Love Maxima's gown she looks incredible as does the young Crown Princesse's. Queen Mathilde looks stunning. All the royal ladies have chosen beautiful jewels, stunning pieces.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun seeing all the beautiful gowns and jewels. Every one looked their best.
ReplyDeleteWish Amalia would smile.
ReplyDeleteInside she is happy for the Grand Duke and Duchess for sure.
DeletePatience - she’s young. Besides which, we only see a few seconds in the photos and have no idea how much she laughed and smiled when she no longer felt observed by cameras.
Delete"Wish Amalia would smile" - why exactly?
; ) - Dorothe -
ReplyDeleteGD Stephanie looks beautiful and happy! The two crown princesses look lovely. MR
ReplyDeleteStephanie wore the same dress in the morning and evening, expected more all attention was on her.
ReplyDeleteElisabeth and Amilia are the best, very beautiful gowns
The Macrons only came for dinner!
I was also going to point out Stephanie wore the same dress as in the morning. Ok regarding "savings", she could however have started savings from the next day onwards. I am on the fence about that blue dress, I wish the front were less "heavy". Congratulations to the Crown princesses ; I think however that Amalia's dress is not really age appropriate. Globally they did both very well, as most guests. Everyone at their best. It must have been a very enjoyable event for them.
DeleteWhat a beautiful display of gowns and tiaras.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Amalia and Elisabeth will become close friends
like their mothers are.
Cate.
@ Cate
DeleteThey are close friends already. You should look at the videos on You tube where you see them talk to each other during their walk on the red carpet. Besides I've always heard that they are sending messages to each other by using electronic mail and/or their Smart phone. I am sure the young generation of European (crown) princesses like Leonor, Ingrid Alexandra, Amalia, Elisabeth, Isabella, etc...are regularly contacting each other. From Princess Elisabeth I know she found a close Belgian friend of her at Harvard University, a girl with whom she became friends at secondary school "St. Jan Berchmans college" in Brussels. In Oxford she became immediately close friends with a couple of girls too, they were interviewed by the Belgian reporters the day she received her bachelor diploma.
Beautiful. I was just wondering why there was no one from the UK
ReplyDeleteUK is no longer European, but also the focus was on their neighbours.
DeleteThere wasn't anyone from Spain, Denmark, Norway, Sweden etc either. It was neighbouring countries only. The Benelux countries, in fact.
Agree 100 % !!
DeleteYou are the first one with a slightly negative comment on the dress of Amalia, which I totally share: the contrast with Elisabeth couldnot be bigger: Amalia too oldfashioned and Elisabeth total of today
DeleteGrand duchess Stephanie and all the ladies looks lovely. Were the siblings of the Grand Duchess also attending this event?
ReplyDeleteSi, certamente. Anche la bella Claire.
DeleteYes, all of the new Grand Duchess’s siblings and their spouses were there.
Amalia looks like a goddess, really a breathtaking appearance - but considering the others and the occasion, I agree with you.
DeleteAmalia is reusachtig, volgende keer minder hoge hakken dragen.
ReplyDeletePlease, don’t criticise the young princesses for who they are, what they cannot change. This Princess in particular has already been through a terrible time. Let’s not forget the modern royals are seen with mobile phones are on the internet. We here don’t want to be part of damaging the younger people by diminishing their self worth.
DeleteAnonymous 9:57: she just wore a wrong dress that made her big.
DeleteGreat look, especially the two queens: Maxima and Mathilde and their daughters, the two crown princesses. I especially like Amalia, she looks splendid; since she has lost some weight she is the most beautiful of the three girls of the royal Dutch family. - Please NO hysterical cries of "bodyshaming" of so-called politically correct people on this blog!!
ReplyDeleteShe is indeed beautigul. Best not to compare which sister is more beautiful - that is never helpful for young people.
DeleteThe most beautiful of the three girls is Alexia (and she knows it).
DeleteI agree Amalia is most beautiful.
DeleteHysterical? well ... what you write is not body shaming, but let me tell you that to state who is the most beautiful is strange because it sounds as an eternal truth valid for everybody, which it is not. You do not add: in your subjective opinion. So before you lecture us nonsensically about body shaming, lecture yourself about appropriately writing your subjective opinion especially if it is about three beautiful young girls.
DeleteMaxima wins the best dressed Queen award in this gorgeous sleeveless gown, plus I’m drooling over the tiara and jewels. Elisabeth wins the Princess award with that fabulous silver dress that is perfect for the event but also reflects her age. And the combo with the bright pink/purple sash makes it youthful and fun! Major fashion claps for both ladies!
ReplyDeleteOn the flip side, how did everyone else bring a change of clothes except the woman of the hour? Pure speculation, but maybe this was always meant to be the evening gown and somehow she ended up having to wear it during the day too? Recycling fashion is a total thumbs up, but not when it’s such a historic day for the nation and their family, and you have a closet full of couture.
Wondering… Very expensive celebration!
ReplyDeleteLuxembourg can afford all that and more
Deletethey only invited a handful of people, how is that expensive
DeleteI like Queen Mathilde's wine red dress by Armani Privé. Her jewelry is so beautiful the diamond diademe part of the 9 provinces tiara is so delicate and looks good combined with the diamond necklace by jeweler Graeff and so are her diamond earrings. Next to her on the table where she sits one can see a silver clutch, I suppose it's hers and I've never seen it before. CP Elisabeth's dress is a beautiful silver column dress by Jenny Packham, which she combines with her own tiara (bought for her 18th birthday by her parents). Her most beautiful jewel is her smile which almost never disappears just like her mother's. Queen Philippe wore his gala uniform. I've always found this suit so beautiful and much better than the multiples medals and military decorations a lot of kings are almost always wearing on special occasions.
ReplyDeleteQueen Maxima has better gala dresses than this one. The overload of jewelry she wears (the color of the gem stones don't match the color of her dress).
CP Amalia wears a beautiful dress but much too old for her 21 years and why on earth must she always wear sandals when she is in gala outfit ?
Former GD Maria Teresa is so discrete and hiding to let her son and
daughter in law shine as the new G Duchess and G Duke that I cannot see what kind of dress she wears at this gala diner.
I looked at the 3 video's on You tube and I'll have to look again the one about the gala diner to see if I can find a glimpse of Maria Teresa.
Except Princess Marie Astrid and Princess Stéphanie and of course the royal men, nobody from the Grand Duke's family is dressed according the circumstances.
Agree !!
DeleteSomehow the sash - or the light - or the tiara make the repeat gown of the Grand Duchess much better. It is probably not really good as a day dress. That she repeats, does not disturb me, more that this dress is too voluminous. As for the other ladies, I cannot pick one as a winner, because Máxima, Mathilde and their daugters were equally breathtaking - leaving aside the spectacular jewels for a moment, their gowns were impeccably well suited for each of them. A joy to look at each of them - and a pleasure to see their hair out of the way in a nice manner, allowing the gowns and the jewels to shine.
ReplyDeleteMathilde, Maxima and their daughters all look wonderful!
ReplyDeleteYes, they do.
ReplyDelete- Dorothe -
,
I suspected the same - maybe she had another dress planned but for some reason couldn´t wear it. I thought however, that it was the day dress that had a problem and she then chose to wear the evening dress for both events. The gown fit right in for the gala but looked out of place in the morning amidst of all the uniforms, and it clashed colourwise as well.
DeleteLooking at some pictures again, I noticed Qn Mathilde had sun tan, but not evenly spread. What a pity with such an evening gown.
Paloma.
Princess Amalia, just WOW!
ReplyDeleteMes préférées Mathilde et Amalia !
ReplyDeleteI am sorry, The Gran Duchess dress gives me 2 thoughts, Fiona or I am wearing a bust because I had back surgery… she is so beautiful, but the dress…. No
ReplyDeleteCan anyone tell me, who is the lady in the unusual (and luscious, imo!) red and white, full-sleeved gown? I’m afraid I’m not as knowledgeable as I ought to be re who’s who at this event. Thank you. — Jane
ReplyDeleteCatherine-Amalia for the win. She looks amazing!!
ReplyDeleteWhat is forgotten in almost all of the coverage of this event, is the fact that also the Lannoy Family attended (of course). I think one of the females (might be the wife of the current Count de Lannoy) wore the Lannoy Tiara, the very same piece worn by Grandduchess Stéphanie on her wedding to Guillaume V. The evening looks have been splendid all along. My two exceptions are: the gown in which Princess Claire showed up. It matched the Chaumet Emerald Tiara, no question about that, but was extremely shapeless and sack-y. Claire once used to be the closest to a fashion-icon the Luxembourg Grandducal family had. With her boxy daytime suit and her even more shapeless evening wear yesterday, those times seem gone. Mme. Macron in one of her usual to-go-column-dresses. She looks great in that type of dress, no doubt, but the upper part looked like highly polished chainmail to me. We had a similar thing with the top of Grandduchess Stéphanie's blue gown, some compared it to a medieval breastplate/suit of armor, and Mme. Macron's dress seemed to pick up that "theme" somehow. No quibbles other than that. Fab event, fab "Trounwiessel" in Lux!
