Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit met with Dr Younis al-Khatib, President of the Palestinian Red Crescent, at Skaugum Estate. He heads a humanitarian organization that plays a central role in the emergency relief efforts in Gaza. Dr al-Khatib is in Norway to meet with Norwegian authorities and the Norwegian Red Cross.
The Palestinian Red Crescent currently operates two field hospitals and two permanent hospitals that are able to receive patients. In addition, the organization runs numerous health clinics across the Gaza Strip. Before arriving in Norway, Dr al-Khatib and his delegation visited Sweden and Denmark.
