The Prince and Princess of Wales made a special visit to honour Queen Elizabeth II on the third anniversary of her death. On September 8, 2025, the Prince and Princess visited the National Federation of Women’s Institutes (WI) in Sunningdale. The organisation was very important to Queen Elizabeth II, who had been a member for over 80 years and served as president of her local branch at Sandringham.

The National Federation of Women’s Institutes brings together women from all walks of life to share experiences and activities. It is described as a safe space for women to come together, participate in a variety of events, and work collectively to bring about positive change. On this occasion, the Princess wore a tartan-patterned dress by Alessandra Rich.

Wow, this is a lovely dress. Alessandra Rich is almost always good for her, just the right amount of playfulness. The slightly blown up sleeves - well not my favourite, but for Catherine this can be seen as bit of a welcome volume (and it is really not too much).

i agree, these type of dresses give her some volume.

i like how they look at each other, its almost like a continuation of an intimate conversation but without words.

I love how you’ve described the dress: just the right amount of playfulness! I also think the black and white check suits her very well. Above all I love the first two photos where Catherine and William in turn look at each other with such admiration and apparently loving each other’s humour.

    4. I have to disagree with some on you. I don't find the dress gives Catherine volume. I think it has a rather slimming effect. It is a tight fitting dress that hugs the body and lengthens it.

@Paloma: Of course you don't have to like the dress, but one can criticise respectfully. As for your "trauriges Outfit, gut für Eintritt in ein Kloster" etc.: Maybe you forgot that the Duchess of Kent died, they have a kind of respecful mourning period. Not full black, but also not colourful.

Paloma, tu as osé critiquer Kate ! Quelle courageuse ! Je suis d'accord avec toi, cela m'a fait penser à Jane Eyre ☺️ Irene

      I agree with Paloma @ 17:43
And don't bring the death of the Duchess of Kent in as an excuse. Queen Camilla was dressed in her Scottish outfit of red and green.
Duchess Sophie wore dresses with white and pink flowers in Canada.
And Paloma didn't write anything that was not respectfully.

William has a really sexy figure. (And I don't mind him being bald.)

  3. Very befitting that they dresswise adhere to the royal mourning period the king has declared upon the death of the Duchess of Kent. The Prince of Wales in a black tie and (almost?) black suit, and The Princess of Wales in very muted colours. Just like she did at the Rugby match a few days ago.

I like this on her; it’s really cute — “just the right amount of playfulness”, as I think another commenter put it. But, I’d prefer a more vibrant color palette — say, warm autumnal reds or moss greens. And, I like Catherine’s hair with this side part.

Possibly black for the period of mourning.

  8. Not the Princess's usual style but I think this dress suits her and is a flattering style for her (the black & white colour scheme may reflect the continuing period of royal mourning but both Queen Camilla and the Duchess of Edinburgh have worn more colourful outfits). The very blonde hair from last week seems to have been toned down and she looks all the better for it.

I also agree that this is a lovely dress on Kate. The checkered pattern gives the illusion of volume, the descending triangular pleats give the lower skirt a nice swing, and the chosen colour is perfect for either reflecting a period of mourning, or quite wearable at any time.
The only thing I don't like are those two triangle pieces below the collarbone, but thankfully, her luscious hair covers them both so you can't see them.

I’m a longtime follower and first time commenter. Although I admire the PsOW and wish her nothing but the best, I don’t find anything about this dress attractive. She has much more attractive and flattering outfits in her closets. The colors, collar, sleeves, and waist all bother me. But she likes it, and that’s all that really matters.

  12. The royal couple are observing the period of mourning, respectful and appropriate. The dress looks very elegant, the Princess looks lovely. William looks well groomed in his dark suit..

I don’t really care for the large collar on this dress, but Catherine nonetheless looks elegant and well-groomed. The pattern and colors of the dress are good for the royal mourning period without looking funereal.

I like how William looks at Catherine in picture two while she is speaking. You can sense the mutual respect and affection they feel for each other. They are a wonderful, long-standing couple who have grown together and risen to the challenges they face.

This is one the few comments I really reckon as true, realistic and respectul on this post.
The others, ehmm, not even worth being addressed imv.
This dress is quite versatile, elegant, subtle in its simplicity, appropriate for showing up in this mourning period.
      Just a remark.
As to the Duchess of Edinburgh sporting some prints not entirely in tune with someone's idea of mourning, it should be noted that any royal member's set of clothes for a trip abroad is planned in advance and packed accordingly so it can't be thoroughly revised and changed in a couple of seconds before departure.
