On Tuesday, 16 September 2025, King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima, Princess Amalia, Princess Alexia, Princess Ariane, Prince Constantijn, and Princess Laurentien of the Netherlands attended Prinsjesdag 2025 at the Royal Theatre in The Hague. Prinsjesdag, also known as Budget Day, marks the official opening of the Dutch parliamentary year, during which the King delivers the ‘Speech from the Throne.’
On this occasion, Queen Máxima wore a maxi dress by Jan Taminiau, Princess Amalia a new draped fringed maxi dress by Taller Marmo, Princess Alexia a new aubergine-colored one-shoulder cape-effect maxi dress by Solace London, and Princess Ariane a new ruched-waist maxi dress by Victoria Beckham.

The best one for me today is P. Alexia. I love both the colour and the style of the dress, it fits her beautifully and she wears it very well. I also like her hair in a back knot and the face that she hasn't worn a hat.
ReplyDeleteI'm not too crazy about any of the other dresses, though I credit Maxima with what I believe is a rewear. Unfortunately that dress fabric looks heavy. I don't like any of the hats but if I was pressed to chose one, it would be P. Ariane's.

Well, i think they all look great this year. Even laurentien.
ReplyDeleteAgree !!
DeleteBig drama hier! so many drapes on everyone. I love Alexia's gown the best, second best is the Queen. The VB dress on Ariane does not give me any good vibes - ruches across her tummy as so often on VB herself and nothing else that catches my attention because the top part is simply formless fabric (I don't count puffy sleeves as positive design elements). Amalia's dress reminds me of a bedsheet that got attached somehow to her dress proper under it and she could not get rid of it in time. Hats: these overly slanted hats - well, theatrical, but also a bit ridiculous if the angle is too large.
ReplyDeleteYou are right about Amalia's dress!
DeleteI agree too. The dresses all come across as costumes, way too dramatic with all those drapings and cape-like bits floating around. I´m also not a fan of shiny fabrics, especially the thin, flimsy ones. They are rarely flattering and have no place in daywear in my view. The extremely slanted hats almost look comical, as does Ariane´s hat with the veil. These lovely young princesses should have opted for simpler dresses, more solid and sturdier fabrics and toned-down hats, simple headbands or no head-gear at all. Alexia´s easily the best dressed here. The bordeau colour works wonderfully for her complexion and with the golden accessories.
DeleteLast thought: Maxima´s sash almost gets lost and is only visible around her hip; Amalia´s sash is entirely hidden underneath the cape-thing. Why chose such dresses for occasion when you have to wear the sash? Seems pointless.
I agree!
DeleteLow key hats and low dresses are better suited for parliament, in that case YES to Alexia and Ariance dresses and NO Amalia and Maxima are abit over the top with those extra large hats
ReplyDeletePrincesses Arianne and Alexia look beautiful. I just don't understand why Queen Maxima and Princess Aalia put satellites on their heads.
ReplyDeleteStephanie
Totally agree with you. These hats are so unpolite as they block one side of the face. So eg the crownprincess walking on the right side of a member of parliament and he sees this ridiculous hat when he would look at her to start a conversation
DeleteAll the ladies look lovely in their choices. I do however like CP CA mellow yellow. It suits her coloring.
ReplyDeleteLowri.
Pr Amalias dress is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI just discovered that Princess Alexia's dress is not dark brown but dark aubergine. Her bracelet is by Hervé van der Straeten a jewelry designer of whom Queen Mathilde bought also jewelry in the past.
ReplyDeleteAlexia and Ariane both look stunning!

All three girls are so pretty. It was a very windy day in London yesterday and it looks like they had similar weather conditions in The Hague - not ideal for hat-wearing. I love the colour and shape of Princess Alexia's dress and note that she is carrying a very popular Zara clutch bag in the same colour as her dress. Princess Amalia looks wonderful in creamy pale yellow. I must say I don't like Queen Maxima's dress – it's droopy and heavy looking and the colour drains her rather. Her hair looks beautiful though. AB
ReplyDeleteAll the princesses are looking good especially Amalia, Alexia but the queen: no.
ReplyDeleteThe curtain drapery, the bush dead flowers/feathers on the head: no.
Just keep it more simple next time.
They do all look the thing, but pity that the sashes on Queen Maxima, but particularly on The Princess of Orange, are totally lost in the design of the gown. Like Princess Ariane's hat. Very fetching.
Paloma.
Not the greatest of fashion today. Alexia looks lovely so does Ariane. Not a fan of Maximas or Amalias gowns. Amalias hat looks like a plate I am sorry to say, just wonder how it stays on her head.

Haven't had much time to look at this today, but first impression is CA has managed to out-Maxima Maxima! Looking very like her mother today and for me is definitely the stand out of all the ladies. I look forward to a closer look at some pictures and a read of everyone's comments!
ReplyDeleteTotally agree.
Deletei don't think any of them look particularly happy to be there.
ReplyDeletekim
Agree! Why looking so bored?!
DeleteProbably to do with the weather.
DeleteThe weather has been awful in the Netherlands in the last couple of days. Gale force winds and heavy downpours. The temperatures have suddenly dropped, so they were probably very cold in those dressed.
The daytime formal dress code of this event seems somewhat challenging for the ladies. I like Alexia’s hair ornament and dress the most, but really dislike the extremely large size of her metal bracelet. Maxima’s jewelry is exquisite. I like the color of Amalia’s dress, but the fringe makes the cape part look like she threw an afghan from the sofa over her shoulder before heading out.

I just think when a hat (disc) is that large it takes away from the total look of the outfit in total!
ReplyDeleteTo me the idea of a hat worn with an evening gown seems quite odd and incongruous. Hats are for regular daytime events and gowns are evening wear. Evening headwear is a tiara or a hair jewellery.
ReplyDeleteCH
For this event which is quite traditional, it’s evening gown and hat. Gotta love traditions which hold meaning and fun for the community! Love these outfits and the dramatic glare.
DeleteArianne's dress is a nice color, but I dislike the ruching across the waist/stomach area. Alexia's gown looks stunning, love the color and design, suits her beautifully. Love her choice in jewels, edgy. Amalia's gown, is lovely, she looks gorgeous. Queen Maxima is my favorite her she looks incredible.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry, but all those dresses, hats and gloves are a bit too much for me 😂
ReplyDeleteI fully agree. It looks more like a masquerade than business. Totally over the top.
DeleteApparently, evening gowns and hats are the traditional dress code for the royal family for this particular daytime event every year, and has been for years.

Princess Alexia is my favorite, Princess Ariane second close. Both look so elegant and lovely.
ReplyDeleteKaarin
Amalia looks very uncomfortable in this unflattering dress
ReplyDeleteIt’s too small for her.
DeleteNo one seemed particularly pleased to be there and Maxima wore already the same outfit at the same event in 2011.
ReplyDeleteThe photos are from serious moments hence no huge smiles. Fantastic to see Maxima rewearing outfits.
DeleteJe trouve que c'est la princesse Ariane qui se démarque en faisant preuve d'élégance dans sa robe à la taille froncée latéralement !
ReplyDeleteOther than Alexia's, the outfits are just meh for me. But what stood out in my eyes was this beautiful, tight-knit family. It's so great to see the 3 sisters with their parents again. Auntie Laurentien and Uncle Constantijn looked really fine as well. And time really flies. Ariane is all grown up now. Poised. Elegant. And as lovely as ever.
ReplyDeleteMARIE
Neither of the ladies very well dressed, the little hat of Ariadne is lovely, but the bare arms not appropriate.
ReplyDeleteAs far as I can remember, the bride's mother at the recent wedding in Liechtenstein donned the same slanted
ReplyDelete"disc" on her head but was widely admired.
Given that this is the official opening of the Parliamentary Year, pomp and gravity are required and expected from the Dutch Royal Family.
They are not bored, they show the right amount of gravity.
Love P.Alexia's plum/ aubergine coloured gown in particular, beautiful presentation.
