The Duchess of Edinburgh is undertaking a four-day official visit to Alberta from 4 to 7 September 2025, in her role as patron of Spruce Meadows, a show jumping venue. This is her first visit to the country since 2023, marking the 50th anniversary of Spruce Meadows. On September 4, the Duchess attended the Internationalists Dinner at the Fairmont Palliser Hotel in Calgary, Alberta. On this occasion, she wore a floral embroidered linen dress by Erdem.
On Friday, September 5, 2025, the Duchess of Edinburgh, accompanied by Linda Southern-Heathcott, President and CEO of Spruce Meadows, visited the multi-purpose sports facility in Calgary. The venue, built by the Southern family and opened in 1975, is a landmark in equestrian sport. On this occasion, the Duchess wore a black button front cotton-silk midi shirtdress by Gabriela Hearst.
On the evening of September 5, 2025, the Duchess of Edinburgh, accompanied by Linda Southern-Heathcott, attended the Six Bar Challenge show jumping event at Spruce Meadows in Calgary. Spruce Meadows is a multi-purpose sports facility near Calgary. On this occasion, she wore a new draped midi dress by Erdem.
J'aime voir Sophie porter la robe bleue imprimée Erdem en lin mais elle est quand même trop longue ; elle a su choisir d'élégantes chaussures à talons fins !
ReplyDeleteBlonde hair is ageing for sure.
ReplyDeleteI like the last dress which is mid length, its more flattering

Re your comment on blonde hair, isn’t it truer that all hair is ageing as we get older … because indeed it’s aging and so are we? Can’t single out a colour that isn’t ageing as we age?!
DeleteInteresting that her wardrobe was all dark colours. Not fussy on the shirt dress, just not a fan of all the pocket flaps. Her shoes are perfect for both occasions. The dark blue is nice colour for her.
ReplyDelete@Anon 13:21 She wore dark colours because the Royal Family has entered a period of mourning following the death of the Duchess of Kent, two days ago.
DeleteYou'll see other members of the BRF doing the same over the next days/weeks as they carry on with their public engagements.

Fashion-wise this is a "No" for me across the board. Each look would have appeared far more elegant with a different shoe choice.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I thought too, but then I realized where she was: on the grass at the sports field. She's wearing shoes appropriate for the environment.

I like the color contrast of the deep plum/purple wrap with the dark blue dress.

Just okay, but is what is expected, given this is her fashion choices. I did notice that it appears she is not wearing hosiery which under QE it was a must.
ReplyDeleteThis is a silly myth, nothing else, it was never really a must in summer. In all other seasons, naked legs are not really pleasant. For myself, hosiery was simply a must not because of being an aristocrat but out of the sheer need to cover your legs in cooler and cold weather.
DeleteIn shoes I would wear panty hose, but in espadrilles it is not possible.
DeleteAlthough I am not a fan of dresses by Erdem I like
ReplyDeletethe "Clarissa floral embroidered linen midi dress" the best. With the white blazer and her hair loose Duchess Sophie looks lovely. She also has a beautiful tan. I don't mind the length if it is worn as an evening dress. The black shoes are a good choice. The other dresses and shoes are a no for me.
I like both Erdem dresses, given the usual caveats re length, though the black and white one in the last photos is definitely an improvement lengthwise. The shawl that she wears in the last photo is a lovely colour and a good contrast with the dress
ReplyDeleteI wish she'd get a nice short jacket to wear over dresses rather than the blazers. Until reading comments here, I never realised how odd it looked and have now given up blazers over dresses myself! :)
Beautiful dresses for equestrian activities with practical shoes - but for me the first dress shown is absolutely beautiful for her (colour, fabric, length) and the shoes are very cute.
ReplyDeleteThree dresses, 3 wins for me--Sophie looks marvelous in each outfit. I really like both the Erdem dresses. The blue dress is very pretty on Sophie.
