Oh... I like Maxima's jumpsuit, but she should wear it with the jacket on, as the model. Without the jacket it looks completely wrong for this meeting. Draping the jacket on the shoulders looks silly to me, one move and it drops on the floor. Amalia looks lovely, but out of scope. I would personally LOVE the Lyngaard earrings, but they are well over my means, I am afraid.

I agree! They both look lovely overall, nice outfits. But I also don't understand why Maxima doesn't put her arms in the sleeves. It looks a bit ridiculous with a short coat like this, especially when sitting at a table. I love Amalia's boots, wonder what brand they are.

Hmm..I think the name of the jumpsuit says it all - “Metallic Tweed Evening Jacket and Jumpsuit”. Not the best choice for a daytime business meeting in my opinion. It does suit Q. Max very well though, and would be a great choice for a more formal occasion. (V.M.)

I agree with you. The name says it all. This is an evening outfit that would be great for a dinner out, not so much for this occasion.

Probably were outfits ready for an evening reception. Normal at these events.

Máxima: lovely jumpsuit with a nice little jacket, she wears it better than the model (because very skinny and such a long jumpsuit silhouette does not go well together). As for Amalia: she is very young and can definitely wear a mini, almost everywhere - but maybe not for such a meeting where she will very probably be the only one in a mini.

HRH P Catharina-Amalia is also the only attendee who is 21 years old. I doubt anyone else there was under 30. She’s the perfect age, IMO, to wear exactly what she’s wearing.

@Anon 17:30 "she is the perfect age": I wrote that too: she has the perfect age for it, yes to that. But it was not the perfect occasion for it.

  5. Elégantes toutes les deux surtout Maxima ; ravie qu'elle ait ressorti les boucles d'oreilles Lyngaard dans une variante plus légère avec les perles blanches !

It's tricky territory for Catharina-amalia; she obviously would not wish to dress the same as a woman of her mother's age, so she chooses a skirt length which most older women would not wear. But it's the same length worn by girls much younger than herself....so she risks looking younger than her age too, like a teenager instead of an adult.
Pants are less problematic. But the princess may need time to craft a wardrobe of skirts and dresses for high-level conferences which reflect her adult identity and her status in a distinctive and modern way. Luckily she has a mother who will no doubt encourage her to be bold and try new looks! :) Lyra

Women older than Amalia wear short skirts as well. She is the perfect age to dress this way. To me, she looks more her age than she has wearing suits--suits no different than Maxima would wear. She looks fantastic and should be applauded for it. It wasn't that long ago that she was shrouding herself in layers of loose fitting clothes and coats in warm weather. I am thrilled to see she is feeling more confident.

Yes Lyra, well said. She has yet to learn that it is not about her but about the cause she is visiting that she has to accommodate herself to. - The metallic tweed is OK for me, it is and looks to me like tweed in the first place, with a couple of metallic fibres in it.

CP Amalia's dress is borrowed from her youngest sister P Ariane who wore this dress on Prinsjesdag a couple of years ago.

Nice jumpsuit, however, the global forum is NOT the place for such a garment. How can she be taken seriously when she continually wears such tacky clothing in public and to more serious occasions.

It’s quite possible the meeting was just prior to an evening reception, which is normal in these events. Their outfits are great for that transition. Maxima is taken totally seriously in fintech meetings as she is an expert. She could turn up in tshirt and jeans and would be in hot demand on this topic.

When you are 21 you are considered as a young woman. In France young women of her age are adressed as "Madame". In the rest of Europe you are not treated as a young girl anymore.

Paloma.

Ummm I really want to like the outfits. As stated above it is a bit tricky. I am thinking that perhaps I would like PA dress to be longer with the boots. This shorter length makes her look out of proportion. But boy is she ever a pretty girl.

I had a tweed sleeveless dress once with a jacket in the same fabric and color... It was supposed to wear during summer because the color was yellow. After one summer I asked my mother if she could make a skirt of my dress, because it was much too warm to wear during summer even without the jacket. I bought a blouse to wear with it and continued to wear it like that. I would never wear a tweed sleeveles dress again. Here they call it a "metallic tweed", I suppose it is a tweed fabric in which a metallic fibre is woven . I can almost feel the scratching material on my skin.

Both Maxima and CP Amalia look great (Maxima rocks her jumpsuit but I too, like others would have liked to see her wear the jacket properly), but... Amalia looks absolutely fabulous! This is how a young woman of style AND substance, and of her age, should be dressing, and especially in New York. She was likely the youngest person in attendance at these meetings and her smart and trendy outfit must have felt like a sartorial breath of fresh air. Youth comes but once: use it or lose it. Good for her!

Nice to see the princess in these meetings. What a delight to meet Bill Gates to hear his point of view. I would have preferred the dress to be a bit longer but, it is okay this way.

Me+EM are definitely a go to with our royal ladies. I quite like this jumpsuit. It sits well on QM. My gripe is her hair. Surely a French Twist, would be little more flattering than it looking so unkept.
CP Amalia is dressed as if she might be meeting up with friends after the meetings. She’s young and learning the ropes, but after two days of business suits I believe she should have continued with that trend, and left the mini skirt a knee length boots for her downtime/social time.

Can't stand jumpsuits, but I like this one on Maxima. This is a nice look for Amalia, but the skirt is a nuance to short in MO.

In reply to anon 25/9,14:40: my comment was referring to the prejudice that every young woman has to deal with, when entering an organisation of very powerful people much older than herself. The universal prejudice young women encounter is of not being taken seriously -- because they are assumed to be naive and immature. A perceptive and smart young woman can counteract this in various ways -- such as using the dress code to communicate that she considers herself ready and capable of making a high-level contribution.
All dress is communication. The bigger question is not, is this a nice outfit? or even, is this outfit appropriate? the question is, what message was Catharina-Amalia's outfit sending to the individuals she was interacting with? for the young crown princess, being conscious of the message of her clothes and being intentional about it, will be very useful for her in counteracting the ageism and sexism which is still so prevalent everywhere.
