The green trousers and blouse look beautiful on queen Mathilde !!

That green outfit is hideous. Mathilde is already short-waisted, and this outfit does her no favors. Natan fails 9 times out of 10.

    1. I don't really like the blouse, however I find your strong criticism largely excessive. I would appreciate some more re-wear from Qn Mathilde.

It’s not hideous; it’s not to your taste. Hideous is really string, eh?! I love the colour of the blouse on her.

During the pandemic Queen Mathilde was one of the first queens and/or princesses to wear her older dresses, to had make them a bit longer or a bit different, if possible.
Besides she has a yearly budget for clothes and personal needs.
So is king Philippe. CP Elisabeth still doesn't make use of her yearly budget. She doesn't wish to have one as long as she is not a working royal yet. (Contrary to CP Amalia of The Netherlands, who asked the Dutch governement in 2024 for the budget that she is allowed to receive as crown princess).
It is not of our concern how the Belgian royal family uses the budget that is voted for them by the government every year.
If the Queen Mathilde can buy new clothes, you can be confident that she knows what she is doing. We don't know either whether she has money of her own, which she can use like she wants. Each year the government can control what they spend on what. The castles in which they can live and which they can use if they want to are all property of the Belgian state. The property they bought themselves, for example the villa in France, is their own.

oh dear, the high neckline on this very pretty lace dress is far too constricting a look for Mathilde (esp. pic 4); the dress needs a lower neckline; combined with a different waist/bodice design to create better shaping around the middle.
The sheer green chiffon top with the sequins is so alluring and ought to look divine... but alas, it is shapeless, chest-flattening and boxy. The chiffon fabric is dragging every which way, and I do not think any alterations could salvage it. The difficulty is probably caused by the sequins - too many and too heavy for the delicate fabric base. However, I must say that the pants are perfection. Lyra

    1. I agree about the high neckline; yes it gives a too constricting look for Mathilde. Only few women can wear that with success.

This dress would be great with another neckline. I'm choking just looking at it. Am also questioning the choice for September in NYC.

La reine Mathilde est tout simplement ravissante dans cette robe guipure. Juste un commentaire sur la photo no. 4, la posture de la dame en tailleur bleu est affreuse à comparer avec celle de la reine.

Oh, dear, I really think both outfits must look quite strange in New York City especially at this time of the year and doing serious business at the United Nations. The lace dress seems fit to be part of a wedding party and makes Queen Mathilde look heavy. The green outfit probably would fit right into a beach party in Florida. The color doesn't flatter her at all and it looks baggy and cheap. She usually dresses so beautifully so I can't imagine how she chose these clothes. In the dark?

In New York, black is always a good color. The white lace is a bit much.

13:46 I see things the opposite way. I think the green on her is beautiful - although in the photos the trousers seem a different hue. The dress I think is gorgeous on her, and she looks very professional there speaking at the podium. I’m pretty sure the clothes were chosen in the light, and very well.

As well Queen Mathilde as Queen Maxima have been at the UN in New-York on several occassions. I think they know what they can wear there or not. I suppose In the streets people do not look up when they see a group of people marching in the direction of the UN buildings especially when there is a congres. From the articles I read here and in the news, I understand that the hotel where the royals stay is not far from the UN premises. So they are not long outside. As well Queen Maxima as Queen Mathilde were outside without a coat and probably more people are doing that when it is not really cold yet.

  6. That dress does not flatter her. And it looks uncomfortable. Not her best moment. As for the green outfit, I’m sure they were dyed and constructed to be worn together but I don’t think the green top and the green pants are complementary.

Mathilde is always lovely in white or cream. She looks smashing here, although perhaps could have had the waist brought in a little as there seems to be a little extra material there under the bust. The most beautiful way to see clothes is always in movement and indeed the most flattering shot of her and the dress is the photo of her crossing the road.

The high neck and the bulky waistline/bust of the white dress are not flattering, and a white, lace dress in NYC in late September looks quite odd. The green outfit is somewhat better, in terms of color and silhouette.

I actually quite like the cream dress in Crocheted Cotton, but not for this occasion (a speech at the UN). It would be more appropriate for a summer garden party.
Definitely not the green outfit! Bussiness formal style woul be better.

Queen Mathilde took a plane on sunday and assisted at the Diner yesterday evening. On that occasion she wore a beautiful red/orange dress by Dries Van Noten. Her golden earrings were embellished with citrine' and "ambre".

I am thinking the dress, though it looks heavy, is perfect for a fall day in New York. It is an elevated look, and this type of lace seems to be prominent these days. As mentioned above there seems to be a bit too much fabric above the waist, however it could be the stiffness of the lace causing this buckle. I love the green outfit, pants are perfect, she wears this colour well, and I like that everything is not skin tight. So it is a bit boxy in appearance, just a different style.

A question like this is not published nor by the royal palace, nor by the designer himself. It is part of the private life of the queen.

Not sure who provided the information in the text at the top, but Gordon Brown is no longer the British PM for many years. Unless he suddenly came out of retirement to organize a UN meeting, it is more likely the organizer was Keir Starmer (assuming the British PM is indeed the one who set it up).

The white lace dress is pretty, but not meant for Mathilde. If it is crocheted, I suspect the fabric is heavier than regular Guipure, and it sure looks like it when she is sitting. Given that the dress is bespoke, this material isn't convenient to Mathilde's morphology. I agree that a round neckline would have been much better to lighten things up. I love the model's image, but as one can see, that's a far cry from Mathilde.

The green outfit is not my cup of tea though I like that shade of green.

These are only guesses. How do you explain that Queen Maxima as well as Queen Mathilde recycled sometimes dresss by Natan they have since ages. If they are on loan they wouldn't keep them so long and they certainly would not had them made longer or changed a bit like they do sometimes.

Personally I have left the Nathan frilly dress at home and worn an Alexander McQueen pant suit to speak at the U. N. It would have said, “powerful, professional and chic. Her white dress demonstrates the wrong image, imo.

I believe strongly that a woman should be able to dress in a totally female way and still hold the power as the speaker. She should not have to dress to look powerful when her words are powerfully chosen and spoken.

Queen Mathilde doesn't need to wear an Alexander McQueen pant suit, she has plenty of beautiful pant suits by Dries Van Noten and Giorgio Armani. Maybe she dressed according the weather in New York. It doesn't look cold there. Other Queens are also crossing over the street to reach the UN building without a coat. Queen Mathilde will wear her pant suits on other occasions in the coming seasons.
Ir is not because she wears a dress that you don't like that she is demonstrating a wrong image, she is known by the people who can make a difference because of the work she is doing for the SDG's. She encountered all the people which are involved in the same subjects as she is and is invited on all the diners that took place. She is a Queen of the World and is appreciated internationally for the work she is doing.
