On September 10, 2025, Queen Letizia attended the colloquium “Women, Sport and Society” held at the Casa de Cultura “Paco de Lucía” in Torrelodones, Madrid. The event took place on the occasion of the Solidarity Tournament CHALLENGE 40 BASKET against female genital mutilation, an initiative promoted by the Torrelodones City Council, the Spanish Basketball Federation, HM Hospitals, and the Community of Madrid.
CHALLENGE 40 BASKET is a sporting and solidarity event that combines basketball with a social purpose. This tournament, aimed at participants over 40, brings together amateur teams and legends of Spanish basketball, including former players from Real Madrid and Estudiantes.
During the event, the Queen was accompanied by the Minister of Equality, Ana Redondo; the Mayor of Torrelodones, Almudena Negro; and the co-directors of CHALLENGE 40 BASKET, Luis Renedo and Adela Nieto. On this occasion, Queen Letizia wore a dalli dark embroidered maxi dress from Antik Batik.
I almost always love what Queen L. wears. Actually, always. But not this time. Of course, she can "pull it off", having a beautiful and very thin figure so no volume can make her look voluminous. But why should she pull of a dress full or ruching above and under that makeshift (looking) self-belt put on to show that yes, actually there is a waist between all those ruches and creases. No to the dress as such, no to the length and no to the espadrilles with this length.
ReplyDeleteIt is the typical Spanish style dress and almost every woman owns one, also the espadrilles are worn allí the lengths...and even with trousers...I can't see the problem.
DeleteI see it completely differently. She hasn't worn this dress any differently than it was designed to be worn, self belt and length included. It is a maxi dress, so it is not being worn too long. She hasn't substituted a different belt for the one that was included with the dress. This is a dress I would wear. I personally like espadrilles, and I think they go with the vibe of this dress.
DeleteI find this dress beautiful. Letizia looks gorgeous!
DeleteAgree with you in every ‘no’ Anon 18 02. The dress does not flatter, though the top is nice. The white bag and light coloured espadrilles look strange with the dress— perhaps dark shoes or espadrilles would improve the look.
DeleteI agree with 18:02.
DeleteMaxi dress or not it is too long and the espadrilles are not looking good with this length.
@ 19:03
DeleteThere are other countries than Spain where women wore this style of dress in the past. In the 80s these long skirts (and dresses) were sold by the Pakistani in the typical almost transparent cotton which came from India. In the mean time, in all other European countries the big clothing stores sell long dresses and skirts like this which are made in all kind of different low cost countries like Vietnam, India, Tunisia, Bangladesh, etc...
@Anon 19:03: There is no problem whatsoever. Just let me not like this outfit, whatever its provenience and however often it is worn by Spanish women. No need to argue or convince each other.
DeleteLovely outfit for a relaxed event. The dress is beautiful and no quibbles with the length. I don’t love the espradilles but she’s Spanish, in Spain, in summer - so they are the perfect choice! Her arms are looking muscled as usual, but worryingly free of body fat and I hope she’s ok; there was a period much earlier in her time married into royalty that she was scary skinny, I hope she’s fine and hasn’t returned to a similar status.
ReplyDeleteAre you suggesting that she has a problem because she doesn't have visible fat? "Worryingly" so? Of course she is okay. It is healthy to be toned, which she is. These types of comments make me wonder why it is so triggering to see a woman that isn't carrying extra weight.
DeleteEspadrilles are worn in many other places than Spain, my country included.
00:51 not triggered, worried.
Delete19:30; I wanted to say that too. I hope she’s ok!
DeleteShe wouldnt have the muscles if she wasnt ok. Karen get back on the treadmill!
DeleteAnonymous @ 00:51, the fact is that Letizia’s arms are skin and bone. The photographs make this plain. This is not merely “toned”. None of us know the state of her health; perhaps she is absolutely fine. But we know what we see and you’re hardly in a position to speak of others being “triggered”. I am sure that arms like Letizia’s are the envy of many. We can all decide for ourselves whether that is a good thing.
DeletePour une fois j aime moins

I think Letizia looks best in more simple, uncomplicated styles. This dress has a lot going on and it's a bit busy for her frame. There are lots of tiers and gathering which I don't like. However, the shoulder adornments are interesting and eye catching.
ReplyDeleteThis dress looks lovely and it suits the Queen beautifully, the flare of the skirt of the dress is very becoming, pretty and feminine.
ReplyDeleteThis is not a great look for Letizia. She could have done better.
