The Princess of Wales, an avid rugby fan and royal patron of the Rugby Football Union (RFU), has long supported the Red Roses. Later in the evening, England lived up to the royal encouragement, producing a dominant performance to defeat Canada 33–13 at Twickenham. With the win, the Red Roses secured their third Women’s Rugby World Cup title. The team will celebrate their triumph with a trophy presentation at Battersea Power Station.

Ow no! Even in this informal event, a blouse and jacket….

    1. Hm, Do you know what appointment she had just before or after ? I admit however that she seems to have changed a bit her clothing style, now rather more formal than earlier.

Nothing wrong with a blouse and jacket at this event.

    3. Since she is royal patron of the RFU.
Her blazer and her blouse seem to be very chic, as far as one can see it on the photo. Her beautiful smile for sure is wonderful.

      She looks…fine?

My thoughts exactly. A jacket could look great, but when paired with a plain white blouse that goes all the way up to her neck is just too boring and matronly. She needs a stylist.

20:01 I think your misunderstanding may be cultural. This is totally standard dress for a patron or royal in this role in the UK. Learning about different cultures through fashion is cool and we shouldn’t assume that our ideas are valid in other cultures but rather look and learn. It’s interesting not wrong!

It is *not* an informal event for the Princess appearing as a patron. Or did you think she is part of the team and will play with them? Maybe you could educate yourself about the function of a patron.

No she is not one of the team. Does that mean that she has to look standard of too formel.

No idea about the appointments before or after. But i don’t care… she can change her clothes. Everybody always talks to dress for the occasion. Kate also has to do that. Enough people to help her change i assume…

Standard is the right conclusion somewhere in the comments. The same as always and that is why i think its boring

Why not? It is a one-off occasion. Nobody is going to waste money on fast fashion for a 5-minute photo-call. Least of all royals who get critised for wasting money.

She doesn’t have to buy something new for the occasion, just pull another option from her existing wardrobe

Anon 01:09: it is not “ a plain white blouse”, see the front.
She is here as patron not as fellow rugby star. She dressed differently when she once took part as a player, remember?

I’m not asking for her to dress like a rugby player. The blouse is white, that’s all.

Why is that important….? Its my opinion that it is boring. She can be a royal etc… of course. But that doesn’t mean she can’t be youthfull. Always the same clothes and boring.

17:54 it’s important because it can explain the culture misunderstanding, which is part of us all learning about fashion. When someone says it’s inappropriate to wear a jacket to a sports game for a patron, I automatically wonder if they’re from another culture - so we can share and learn together on what is normal! Re you finding her clothes boring, you may not be aware but may find interesting, at some stage last year the Princess of Wales said she wished people would focus on her work not her clothes. If she’s wearing clothes repetitively to the extent that you find them boring, start focussing instead on her causes and I think you’ll see that her thinking on this subject is very cool!

Weird combination with the Saville Row custom made silk blouse and a cowboy hat. Not sure what kind of message she intended to send.

Not a message - but rather joining in the fun when the girls put a hat on her head! She’s there for them - not the fashion statement - and I love that about her.

Obviously they presented her the hat as the patron of their club, so she was a sport on put it on. Her suit is very nice, fits well

It's the blouse! If Catherine had worn a simple crew neck sweater or plain blouse , it would have changed the look and been more youthful and vibrant. This frilly blouse gives off "older woman" vibes. I call it like I see it. I used Queen Letizia as an example who wears lovely Hugo Boss blouses that are simple and hang nicely under blazers and suit jackets. This is twice recently that I have seen Catherine wearing this blouse - not her best look.

She looks beautiful, and afaic the lovely, fancy blouse is more than adequately "de-formalized" by the simple, plain jacket and playful cowboy hat. -- Jane
