The renovation works on the facades of the Royal Palace of Brussels have been completed. On September 18, 2025, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium took the time to meet and thank the 130 employees of the Buildings Agency, Monument Vandekerckhove, and the Royal Palace for their work over the past two years. The Royal Palace of Brussels is the King’s administrative residence and main workplace, where he works daily with his staff.
The work was organized in phases to ensure the palace remained operational. The process began in March 2023 with the most visible phase: the front facade. In less than a year, the front facade was restored, while work continued on other parts: cleaning and restoring the rear and side facades, the curved gallery, service courtyard, Brabant courtyard, and garden walls, balustrades, fences, staircases, and statues.
Approximately 700 windows were restored or replaced, about 18,000 m² of facades were cleaned, 4,500 m² of garden walls were cleaned and restored, 16 statues were cleaned and restored, and the woodwork was also refurbished. The official conclusion of the works was marked by a provisional delivery on May 22, 2025. The renovation took a little over two years and cost approximately €6 million.
