The National Sports Festival, titled “Wata-SHIGA Kagayaku National Sports and Para-Sports”, officially opened on September 28, 2025, at Shiga Prefecture’s Heiwado HATO Stadium, with Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako in attendance. Competitions in table tennis, badminton, and other sports also began that day and will continue until October 8.
Around 2,600 athletes and officials from all 47 prefectures took part in the opening ceremony, during which singer Takanori Nishikawa, a Shiga native, performed the national anthem. This year marks only the second time the festival has been hosted in Shiga Prefecture, the first being 44 years ago. The National Sports Festival of Japan (Kokumin Taiiku Taikai) is the national premier sports event of Japan. Its name is often abbreviated to Kokutai.

ردحذفMasako 's outfit is perfectly matched with the clutch purse and hat. It hangs well on her when she is standing still. Gorgeous color and cute upturned collar at the back. However, I believe it would flow nicer with this silky material, if it were about 2 inches shorter and the skirt was sewed to fit properly. It's too big.
ردحذفI think we are not seeing a skirt typically with the Empress, but a dress with a jacket. This is why the skirt part often looks a little large, as it’s not waisted, but a beautiful gently form fitting sheath shaped dress, appropriately loose for the culture. I think if she could just once remove the jacket, we would see a superb dress.
حذفThis is a beautiful pale blue suit, gorgeous. Blended with her bag and shoes. Her pearls look wonderful. I love the texture of her jacket, this looks gorgeous. Really defines the overall look.

ردحذفIt’s looks like a dress with a jacket. I like the two different fabrics. The satin finish of the dress with the more textured jacket. The color is beautiful as is the Empress herself. The pearls certainly have the ‘wow’ factor!

She’s without exception elegant and beautifully dressed. I would love to see her experiment with a slightly differently shaped hat with a slightly wider brim.
ردحذفI'm sure she'd like to experiment with a different shaped hat as well, but she can't. She has to wear the traditional hat(s) that is(are) chosen for her.
