As part of the accession to the throne, which will take place on Friday, October 3, the Grand Ducal Court has released the official portraits of the future Grand Ducal Couple. Photographs of the future Grand Duke Guillaume and the future Grand Duchess Stéphanie, taken by photographers Kary Barthelmey and Christian Aschman, will, in keeping with tradition, be displayed in public buildings starting from October 3.
Aw, they always seem like a very sweet couple. She looks gorgeous in that white!
ReplyDeleteStephanie looks just great here.
ReplyDeletePerfect hair and makeup.
The dress is regal yet understated.

Lovely photos. And not a strange tape-like thing on their collars, nor a strange background in sight! Can someone please confirm, if possible - I thought that what is happening on October 3rd is that the current Grand Ducal couple will retire vs. fully and officially abdicate, similar to Liechtenstein, where Hans-Adam turned over the reigns to Alois and Sophie but is still technically the reigning Prince of Liechtenstein until he passes away. It sounds from this post, however, that a full abdication will take place. I will look this up online of course, but thought to ask for any insights here as well.
ReplyDeleteNo regency like in Liechtenstein. It is a full and complete abdication, a step down from the throne of Grandduke Henri, and thus a complete and full handover of it all to Guillaume.
DeleteOh doesn’t Stephanie look beautiful. This dress suits her so nicely. I am on the fence with the fit of the princes suit, it looks a bit big and not sure of the colour because of the lighting. Very nice portrait
ReplyDeleteI don't miss that beard at all. Neither the previous artistic portraits. These are very traditional and a bit stiff photos, which is all right, considering them displayed everywhere. Stephanie's dress is 100%, I would highly estimate just a tiny bit more smile on her face. - And I miss just one, the most important detail: those precious boys on their arms :-)
ReplyDeleteMy same thoughts exactly! He looks so much more handsome without the beard and I wish she had a more firm look, hopefully a little smile. But overall the photos are lovely.
DeleteSuch predictable comments. I would have bet my life that the previous art portraits were going to be brought up. How hard is it to just appreciate these official portraits? Stephanie looks lovely, regal in fact. I am still wishing Guillaume will bring the beard back. I think he looked great with it.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous 15:57 - Given how close in time the two sets of portraits were released, it seems reasonable to compare them.

Not a bit less predictable than your own comment about other commenters whose opinion you don't like :-))
DeleteI too would welcome the return of Guillaume’s beard — imo it suited him wonderfully, lending a handsome touch of gravitas to his features. (Not all men look their best with a beard, of course; I long for the day Prince William will get rid of the trendy, but all wrong for him, five-days-without-shaving look.)
DeleteNo wish to see again Guillaume with a beard !
DeleteSuperbes portraits ; beaucoup de douceur dans cette robe blanche aux lignes sobres ; que porte t’elle comme boucles d’oreilles ?!
ReplyDeleteWow just fantastic Stéphanie. More of this
ReplyDeleteThe elegant simplicity of Stephanie’s dress is perfect with her ornate earrings. Lovely portraits.

Team no beard.
ReplyDeleteThey both look very nice. I'd have preferred a darker suit on Guillaume since this is going to be their formal portrait displayed all over Luxembourg, and a darker suit would have complemented Stephanie's lovely cream/white dress more (she looks smarter dressed than he), but it still is a nice portrait of them both.

Beautiful portraits showing the couple waiting for the great day when they are set to take over their "top job".
ReplyDeleteI am not entirely sure but Pss Stephanie's superb dress fabric looks like mikado silk.
It is a relatively simple and clean cut piece though I can spot subtle and very elegant details in it.
Congratulations to the couple gradually transitioning into their new roles and titles.
Beautiful couple
ReplyDeleteStephanie wears a white dress that looks so similar to Megan's wedding dress.
ReplyDeleteI particularly like the soft colours of Guillaume‘s suit and tie, he looks so much better without the beard.
