On August 23, 2025, Emperor Emeritus Akihito and Empress Emerita Michiko visited the Ohinata settlement in Karuizawa, Nagano Prefecture, during their summer stay in the resort town. The Imperial couple toured a vegetable field located at the foot of Mount Asama. They are scheduled to remain in Karuizawa until Friday.
I have very fond memories of these 2 royals over the decades; and it's a delight to see more recent photos of them. Although retired and in their nineties, I'm not surprised to see them maintaining their links to a local community as they have done in previous years. I hope they continue well and enjoy their summer holiday.
