Princess Benedikte Visits Flensburg for Battle of Isted Commemoration

On July 25, 2025, Princess Benedikte took part in the commemoration of the 175th anniversary of the Battle of Isted. The day was marked by wreath-laying ceremonies at memorials honoring fallen soldiers at Flensburg Old Cemetery and the Isted Memorial Museum. Upon arrival at the cemetery, the Princess was welcomed by Annette Lind, Denmark’s Consul General in Flensburg.

At the cemetery, the Princess laid a wreath at the central Danish war grave, where around 2,000 Danish soldiers lie buried. Among them are several who fell in the Battle of Isted on July 25, 1850. Later, the Princess attended a reception at the Royal Danish Consulate General.

The day concluded at the Isted Memorial Museum, where Princess Benedikte also laid a wreath. Upon arrival, she was welcomed by Daniel Günther, Minister-President of Schleswig-Holstein; Dr. Wolfgang Buschmann, County Mayor and Chairman of the Isted Foundation; District President Walter Behrens; and representatives Jørgen P. Jessen and Susanne Scheel from the War Grave Commission for South Schleswig East.

The Battle of Isted took place on July 25, 1850 near the village of Idstedt (Danish: Isted), in what is today Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. The battle was part of the First Schleswig War. Nearly 40,000 Danish soldiers fought against 27,000 Schleswig-Holstein troops, making it the largest battle in Danish history. The Danes won the battle.

The jacket fits beautifully. Her overall look is stylish and elegant. Always a joy to see her. She is a wonderful representative of the Royal family.
