Today, July 4, Queen Sonja of Norway celebrates her 88th birthday. Born Sonja Haraldsen on July 4, 1937, she became Queen of Norway as the wife of King Harald V. Then-Crown Prince Harald and Sonja Haraldsen were married in Oslo Cathedral on August 29, 1968. King Harald and Queen Sonja have two children and six grandchildren. Princess Märtha Louise was born on September 22, 1971, and Crown Prince Haakon on July 20, 1973.
Queen Sonja accompanies King Harald on official state visits abroad and participates in welcoming foreign heads of state to Norway. She also undertakes a wide range of duties, including national travel, official engagements, public events across the country, audiences, receptions, and meetings at the Royal Palace. To mark her 88th birthday, the Norwegian Royal House released a previously unpublished photograph of Queen Sonja from the royal archives, taken in 2021 by photographer Jørgen Gomnæs.

Wow!! 88!!! She looks great, is so active, moves with ease and has a great fashion style, not always "perfect" for everyone's liking nevertheless very stylish.
ردحذفLife in the royal family has been bumpy: Princess Märtha Louise has had big ups and downs, lots of controversy at the beginning of Haakons relationship with MM, the kings health in the last few years and MM's son in recent years has given a few headaches, to say the least.
Nevertheless she had been steady, or at least that's how I perceive her, strong, supporting, etc, a great lady.
Kudos to her and congratulations to the entire family!!
