Empress Masako Attends the 50th Florence Nightingale Medal Award Ceremony
On Thursday, July 31, 2025, Japanese Empress Masako, accompanied by Crown Princess Kiko, Princess Hitachi, Princess Tomohito of Mikasa, and Princess Takamado, attended the 50th Florence Nightingale Medal Award Ceremony at the Tokyo Prince Hotel in Minato Ward, Tokyo. The Florence Nightingale Medal is awarded every two years to nurses from around the world who have made outstanding contributions.[ads id="ads1"]The Florence Nightingale Medal is the highest international distinction awarded to nurses and nursing aides. It was first presented in 1920 to mark the 100th anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth and has since been awarded biennially to nurses who have demonstrated exceptional service. By 2023, a total of 114 Japanese nurses had received the medal.
Empress Masako has a lovely face on pic. N°2. With another hat, shoes and stockings she would be perfect.
ReplyDelete… or do you rather mean, with another hat, shoes and stockings she’d fit better into your current fashion preferences?! I believe the whole interest on this blog is seeing fashion from around the world via royal ladies, and it’s the differences that makes this blog - and life - interesting. We don’t need any of the royal ladies to change, only to enjoy them.
DeleteYes she’s beautiful! I don’t think she needs to change her clothes though, as they very much fit her culture and the occasion.
DeleteShe looks lovely as always. These outfits are the signature styles worn when on official duty. Much like the dress/coat combos QE wore and the dresses that Camilla wears. I find the fabric and tailoring perfection amazing. The colours and everything have meaning. Very intriguing to learn. My one quibble which I have for all, the drawn in heavy brows. Can hardly wait for that trend to end.
DeleteI think the frustration 15:02 feels could be that everything has been pretty much unchanged for decades. These styles may have become synonymous with Japanese royalty, but they were adapted from midcentury Western styles. At the time, they were meant to give a look of modernity. The problem is that their Western style hasn't really evolved, and as we have discussed before, the Imperial Household Agency has a lot of power over what they wear. It would be nice if they were able to express their individualism, especially for the younger members of the family. Exquisite tailoring doesn't change the fact that the clothes may not be the most flattering.

DeleteI didn't wrote about her clothes, I only mentioned the hat, the shoes and the stockings. I said I found her face lovely.
I thought on a fashion side I could say what I like and what I don't like.
I have the impression that anything what I am writing here lately, even when I say it friendly and also write what I do like is criticised. I didn't wrote about her as a person only about things she is wearing. No need to repeat the history of the clothing style. I know all that, also about the rules at the imperial court. That doesn't mean I have to like it.

Thank you for explaining, I thought there was a significance. What a honour for these ladies.
DeleteFascinating! Arigato.
DeleteThank you for explaining.
Deleteご教示ありがとうございます
DeleteEmpress looks dignified.
ReplyDeleteBut the nurses getting awards look decades past their working days, it would be nice for a younger generation of nurses to be given awards
See the translation of 1621 above they are significant dresses.

Masako is always elegant. I wish she'd change up the style of her hat. She always wears the style of hat.
ReplyDeleteIt suits her quite well.
DeleteMasako est belle mais dans une couleur plus vive, elle aurait plus d’allure en changeant également de style de chapeau !
ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful tailored skirt suit from HM! I love the gloves as an add-on,but the standout are the pearl earrings, they are sublime. You never see the Japanese royal ladies wear colored stoned jewelry, but the diamonds and pearls they do wear, are so beautiful, and classic, very much like the Empress herself.
ReplyDeleteLowri.
