On Wednesday, June 4, 2025, the Duchess of Edinburgh visited the Unsilenced: Sexual Violence in Conflict exhibition at the Imperial War Museum (IWM) in London. The Imperial War Museum London is a British national museum dedicated to deepening the public’s understanding of modern warfare and the human experiences it shapes. For the visit, the Duchess of Edinburgh wore a new pink silk maxi dress by Gabriela Hearst.
The Unsilenced exhibition aims to empower survivors, inform the public, and drive meaningful change. It shares the often-overlooked stories of child evacuees, victims of trafficking, prisoners of war, and survivors of sexual violence from the First World War to present-day conflicts. It also highlights the ongoing efforts of individuals and organizations advocating for justice.
Oh dear, what a lovely colour for her, but the length is way to long. It would look so pretty mid length
ReplyDeleteIt is a maxi dress, so she is wearing as designed. I think it means she chose it because she likes this length. That’s ok!
Delete@Anon 03:55: OK. So let's close the blog, because everything a woman choses is basically OK because she has chosen it :-). Of course the Duchess is lovely and has the right to wear anything she wishes. And we here have the right to say why we like or don't like it.
DeleteI agree with Anony 08:34. Above all not say anything of certain royals. The list of these royals is becoming longer and longer lately. Even if they are wearing the worst outfit you can find in their dressing.
DeleteRoyals who are doing their best to look good are criticized of being overdressed. Nowadays everybody should wear the same outfits in the same colors. What a world we are living in ? I refuse to put away my colourful clothes. When I go out I take the time to choose something in which I (still) look good. I put on some make-up and some perfume and off I go.
3:55 yes a maxi dress but as in the model you can see the ankles, so a few inches shorter would make all the difference. It is not the best style for her but she looks nice in that colour.
DeleteIt is designed to be a longer dress, but yet again, she wears it even longer than it is designed to be worn. This dress makes her look wider in the hips. I don't know her reason for wanting to be so covered up, but she obviously likes it. I don't think these longer lengths flatter her at all.
DeleteOnly the buttons save this garment from being mistaken for a silk dressing gown. I can imagine a well-to-do lady wearing it while sitting at her dressing table brushing through her long blond hair (before arranging it into a more daytime fitting hairstyle, but this part was omitted in this case). Well ... I think Duchess Sophie will not part ways with her billowing maxi gowns - the fashion has to change.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant!
DeleteLovely dress for Sophie, except for the length which she seems to like. Looks like it is here to stay if you look at fashion online shops. Either this or vey short, as if there is nothing in between anymore. I find it not very flattering, but dowdy and reminiscent of the late 18. Century. Bring back knee length and tea length!
ReplyDeleteHi Anon 22:11. I am guessing that you are from the northern hemisphete
Deleteas Downunder we have the choice between short, midi or
maxi length dresses.I have many midi length dresses which I
consider age appropriate for me.( I am Sophie's age.)
I do think most of her dresses would look better at a midi rather
than the usual maxi length that she wears.
Cate.
There are certainly all lengths of dresses where I am, as well.
DeleteI wonder if she's concerned about bending over or having the wind pick up too much, so she goes for a (too) long (er) length. She's a pretty woman and has a great shape and I think she can carry off a shorter look. Kim
-Astrid.
The shoes are quite nice. But the dress: NO. Way too long and does not flatter her body style.
ReplyDeleteYes, the dress is too long+volume and her face looks bloated
DeleteVery soft and pretty. To me it looks like a maxi shirt dress and not at all a dressing gown, particularly with the smart shoes and bag. This silk at this length must feel very beautiful to wear.
ReplyDeleteThe dress is okay, not sure it suits her shape, but the length is too long.
ReplyDeleteUn modèle de robe élégant très doux mais pour la petite taille de Sophie, elle serait parfaite avec quelques centimètres en moins !
ReplyDeleteIt sure is a Maxi dress, not only the length but also the width. Too much fabric even if a very thin woman wears it, she will look broader than she really is. How she can feel good in these dresses ? Unbelievable.
ReplyDeleteI think Sophie looks lovely here. This maxi dress is a simple shirt waist style that is a great style for most women. The flowy silk fabric is very pretty and I happen to like how it looks on Sophie. I love maxi and midi lengths--and its obvious Sophie does too. My complaint has nothing to do with Sophie or the style--I find the color too pale. Had this been in a pale yellow or blue or had the pink been a bit darker I think would be better.
ReplyDeleteJanet
Once again too long, too casual and not flattering to the Duchess of Edinburgh's figure!
