On June 29, 2025, Queen Margrethe visited Hvidsten and Spentrup on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Denmark’s liberation and the anniversary of the execution of the Hvidsten Group. At Spentrup Church, a service was held to commemorate the liberation, which Her Majesty attended. Later, the Queen took part in a luncheon at Hvidsten Inn (Hvidsten Kro).
The visit concluded at the Memorial Grove in Hvidsten, where Queen Margrethe laid a wreath in honor of the members of the Hvidsten Group who were executed on June 29, 1944. The Hvidsten Group (Hvidstengruppen) was a Danish resistance group during World War II. On March 11, 1944, most of its members were arrested. Eight were sentenced to death on June 26 and executed in Ryvangen on June 29, 1944.
Applause for her to remind her people of the resistance. Denmark played a worthy role in this respect. Queen Margrethe looks good, an upright person in spite of her walking stick and in more than one sense of the word.
