On May 20, 2025, the Prince and Princess of Wales hosted the third and latest royal garden party at Buckingham Palace, on behalf of the King. They were joined by Prince William's cousins, Princess Eugenie and Zara Tindall, as well as the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester. This marked the Princess of Wales’s first appearance at a royal garden party since 2023, following her chemotherapy treatment in 2024.
The Princess of Wales wore a yellow dress by Emilia Wickstead, paired with a hat by Philip Treacy. The Duchess of Edinburgh chose a pink floral dress by Beulah London, along with a pink and white bow-style hat by Jane Taylor. Princess Eugenie wore a classic navy and white polka dot dress by Rixo, while Zara Tindall opted for a cream and red floral dress by Anna Mason, complemented by a wide-brimmed hat by Jenny Roberts.
Catherine looks lovely in her re-wear., which is always nice to see. Beatrice seems the winner to me, but I can't see much below the waist. Her waist is cinched in; the dress is not too low cut and it flatters her nicely. She appears to be losing some weight - any before anyone jumps down my throat - losing weight is a healthy thing . Just ask my doctor. It's a constant battle - but I never give up!!
ReplyDeleteFloral dresses do not flatter either Sophie or Zara -- both too long. Anytime a dress makes you look larger than you are or older you are - you should NOT wear it. They are pretty spring colors, but better to have a pattern than sprinkles a few flowers on a solid background. There are nice ones - this just isn't it.
Hmmm Virginia, not jumping down your throat, to point out that for some losing weight is good and for others it’s not, hence unless we know someone, we cannot presume to assume!. When I am very thin, I appreciate a dress that makes me look bigger, definitely, so once again: no blanket rule. All the ladies look fabulous here, although as you say, not all details can be seen. To me Eugenie’s dress looks a little low cut but I’ll trust it’s the angle of the photo and that she knows more than I do regarding choices! I like the longer hem lengths, very elegant. Lots of Beefeaters around … is it that these garden parties are not a free-to-mingle event when the royals are on the lawn but rather the guests are corralled together very carefully by all the security personnel?… I guess that’s changed much since the early days of the tradition!

Lovely to see the royal cousins on hand again for this garden party. All dresses are good in some respects. Princess of Wales is immaculate, elegant and stylish. The dress of Duchess Sophie is pretty. It’s an awkward length. I’d actually prefer slightly longer to make it a proper maxi. Hat is lovely and shoes are good.

For the first time, all 5 royal ladies look good. Nothing really to complain about without nit-picking. Their dresses are simple, unfussy, sunny and colourful, balanced with some darker tones just like typical British Spring weather. In other words, all perfectly proper for a garden party. Some of the hats are a bit silly and excessive but that's the way it goes. I like Eugenie's and Zara's the best. Today's winner for me is the Duchess of Gloucester. She looks smart and quietly elegant head to toe as she always does.

ReplyDeleteI’ve always thought that Catherine’s beautiful yellow dress is a supreme example of elegant simplicity. Just exquisite. Sophie’s dress is so very pretty from the waist up — BUT the length skews its proportions and just ruins it for me. Zara’s dress is also very pretty, but the length is almost — fortunately not quite — as problematic as Sophie’s. I have nothing against longer dresses, if the overall effect is pleasing — but imo it’s a tricky thing to achieve. Lately Sophie’s wardrobe seems to consist almost entirely of nearly ankle-length dresses and skirts, which I guess means she loves them — but I don’t often think they are the best choice for her.

Eugene looks good, Zara adapted to the occasion, but this is not her style, Sophie in one of her always too long dresses, and the duchess of Gloucester: always simple elegant.

ReplyDeletePrincess Eugenie is looking very beautiful on these pictures. Her dress fits and I like her hat and earrings. Her face looks beautiful, probably an excellent make-up. If only the dress would be a bit shorter, she would be perfect.
ReplyDeleteThe other dresses worn by Zara and Sophie are too long as usual. The flower prints look more like fabrics used for decorating an ald fashion bedroom or something.
The duchess of Gloucester wore one of her winter coats again.
Princess Catherine's yellow dress is a rewear but is still looking good. It has the right length for her height. The proportions are good, which cannot be said of the other royal ladies as of the female visitors at the garden party. And then the hats : I don't like these hats put on one side of the head, but this is British fashion. I suppose they can't get over the "My fair lady" feelings and this goes as well for the gentlemen's suits and hats.
Well not so much British fashion but royal British fashion. I’m not sure it’s about “getting over” any feelings but rather about something splendid: holding on to good traditions! If we all capitulate to the one global modern fashion things would be exceedingly boring (and exceedingly wasteful). We can be glad here to have some insight into various traditions and ways of dressing!

DeleteThere is no one global modern fashion. Each country has his own specialties. The fashion you are talking about is the universal fashion youngsters are wearing to go to school or in their free time. Once they are a bit older they change their way of dressing too. You think you are the only country who have insight into various ways of dressing. Other countries have them too. They are just different from yours. One does not have to wear ankle length dresses to be dressed better. One does not have to wear silly hats and think one does not look boring. France, Italy, Germany, ..... have good fashion houses which work with fabrics of good quality. Not cheap at all. They also have their traditions and these traditions happen to be more what I like. I am the first to admit that some of the British designers are excellent : Jenny Packham, Safiyaa, ... made beautiful dresses for European royals and they were not so long as those we see here (unless it were evening gowns).

I’m particularly intrigued by your statement: “You think you are the only country who have (sic) insight into various ways of dressing”, … but you see I’m not a country, I’m just a human, who really appreciates the differences, cultures, traditions. What I wrote was IF we capitulate to one fashion it would be boring…

ReplyDeleteParmi toutes ces dames, c'est le look de Sophie qui a ma préférence même si sa robe estivale est un peu trop longue – Bon choix que son chapeau jusqu'à la pochette à la couleur Bordeaux ; j'allais oublier ses élégantes chaussures !

It is probably a very British thing, but why organise a garden party and then come dressed in highly unpractical shoes, hats and dresses absolutely not adapted to the weather or to walking on lawns! It just seems a bit funny to me. Having said that, they all look good, even if I have a slight preference for Sophie.

ReplyDeleteIt was thoughtful gesture of Catherine to wear yellow,in support of the three young girls that were killed in Southport last year. The town lit up the streets in yellow to mark the occasion. This EW dress was winner at the Jubliee and still looks lovely the second time around.

Eugenie was a surprise. We’re so used to her faux pas it was a delight to see her in such a beautiful and flattering ensemble. The hat is perfect and compliments the dress perfectly.
I feel like Groundhog Day when it comes to Sophie. If the dress had been the same length as Zara’s it would have looked splendid. It complimented her figure and coloring. The hat was the wrong shade of pink,but the style of the hat was flattering.
The DoG is always elegant,no matter when we see her. You can tell thought has gone into her choices.
