On May 9, 2025, Queen Letizia of Spain visited Madrid’s iconic Cuesta de Moyano book fair on the occasion of its centenary. The visit, which took place on Europe Day, included a meeting with booksellers and honorary members of the civic association Soy de la Cuesta. Cuesta de Moyano, located near Madrid's famous Retiro Park, holds immense significance for book lovers in the city. During the fair visit, the Queen wore a checked coat by Mirto.

The history of this open-air book fair, which operates every day of the week, dates back to 1925, when a series of 15-square-meter wooden stalls were set up along the street. Upon her arrival, the Queen was welcomed by the President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso; the Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun; the Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida; and the founder and executive director of the Soy de la Cuesta Association.

Today Letizia spends time in a book Paradies. Great place to be for a reader. I like her Coat; she is always in style.

  2. Je ne suis pas vraiment fan de petits carreaux mais là, je reconnais que Letizia a belle allure dans ce modèle de trench-coat imperméabilisé porté sur une association de parties noires ; j'aime bien son petit sac à mains !

    Q. Letitia looks wonderful here. The checked raincoat fits her well and the accessories (shoes and bag) add interest to the overall look. (V.M.)

I really love this entire outfit. The coat is casual chic and I adore her shoes. I would like to see her wear a white blouse under the coat another time. I think it would look equally good, possibly more elevated.

I like the Queen's coat, but not a fan of either the handbag or the shoes. Neither are very elegant looking. I think Queen would be better off buying just a few pair of well crafted Italian made shoes rather than all of these flats that do not look like classic designers , probably made in Spain and not as comfortable. I say that from experience . Italian shoes are the most comfortable and can be purchased in 1 to or 2 inch heels.

    1. And why do you think Spanish shoes are not as comfortable? Some fantastic Spanish brands are Camper, Lodi, Magrit, Sara Navarro, Pretty Ballerinas, Farrutx, Castañer, Paris 1964 (in spite of the name it's a Spanish brand), Lottusse. I can assure you that in my experience they're just as comfortable and well looking as Italian ones. And do you know the Stuart Weitzman brand. His shoes are actually made in Spain!

      @ V. Dogwood.
I like Queen Letizia's shoes. Also the Italian brands make this shape of shoes now. In my shoestore one can find shoes from a lot of brands and from all European countries. They even have comfort shoes in the same shape Queen Letizia is wearing. You should be surprized if you saw their shoe collection. Not everybody can wear Italian shoes not because they are not of good quality but because they are designed to wear by women with small feet and to wear in countries where it does not rain much. The leather is very thin and therefore Italian shoes are quicker used. I wore Italian shoes when I was young too. Now I must wear comfort shoes with a wider width because of foot problems due to age and also the fact that I do my walking every day. I also wore shoes and boots made in Spain in the past, they were very comfortable and I had them a very long time. Queen Letizia's shoes are not flat. They have block heels (last picture on the left). Maybe you don't like this shoe shape, but that doesn't mean they are not good to walk with. I am sure with the feet problems she had lately, she will know by now what kind of shoe she cannot wear any more. If she can find a comfortable shoe with a fashion design, why would she not buy it ?

Paloma.
