On April 25, 2025, the Duchess of Edinburgh attended a Dawn Service at Wellington Arch at Hyde Park Corner in London to commemorate the Fallen on the 110th anniversary of Anzac Day. Later, the Duchess attended the Anzac Day service of commemoration and thanksgiving at Westminster Abbey in London.
Anzac Day is a day of remembrance that commemorates the first major battle involving Australian and New Zealand forces during World War I. The Anzac Day Service has been held in London since the first anniversary of the Anzac landings at Gallipoli in 1916, when King George V attended a service at Westminster Abbey.
Suzannah Navy Velvet Hunter Coat Dress
Fabulous hat with most fabulous lady ponytail, yay! Color coordination not so fabulous: If the hat is really black, then she should have worn black shoes. Anyway, not nude or beige shoes for this occasion. But ... let me repeat: fabulous hat and lady ponytail, may their time to go out again with the Duchess come soon!
ReplyDeleteWell she looks very nice in that colour. For me it is the shoes that ruin what could of been a nice silhouette with the longer coat. Pumps would of made all the difference. Seems that these shoes with the safety strap are in vogue, but doesn’t mean they should be worn. Beatrice wore green satin ones and they did not enhance the outfit one bit.
ReplyDeleteAh I see this the other way: the shoes are gorgeous and make this outfit! I don’t exactly know what pumps are ( where I come from, they are hydraulic or manual devices to push water or oil from one place to another), but I find these shoes particularly suit Sophie.
DeleteA beautiful coat. I kind of wish the hat and the bag were the same shade of grey as the lovely shoes.
-Dorothe-
ReplyDeleteI wonder what happened to her hair....in some photos it is in a pony tail and in other photos it is pinned up....wonder if the hair came undone? Lovely lady.
ReplyDeleteBeau tissu en velours. J'aime que sa broche (un peu cachée par les coquelicots) soit assortie au ruban du chapeau. Paloma.
ReplyDeleteWhat a strange ponytail she has made under her hat. Bad hairday Duchess Sophie ? On the first three pictures she has a ponytail and on the last three she pulled her hair together in what I call a house wife bun. On the 4th picture it looks like there is a layer of dust on the hat. The grey shoes are not looking good with the navy coat. @ anonymous 16:48 : The shoes that are in vogue are Mary Janes not those with safety straps. There is a difference. On Mary Janes the straps are not placed high and the heels are lower. Once again a proof that the Duchess of Edinburgh still don't know what she can wear together : navy coat, black hat, grey shoes,....not to talk about her hair. I do not think she has a hairdresser. Each time she is photographed her hair looks like it is quickly pulled together in a low bun which is not staying in place very long.
ReplyDelete@Anon 19:18: If you read Helen's introductory text, you will or would have noticed that she had two different appearances on the day. At Dawn at Wellington Arch for Anzac Day and later in the day a second one in Westminster Abbey. I don't quite see the problem wearing a ponytail at dawn and having a bun later. For all this worn under a hat, she does not need a hairstylist, especially not at dawn.
Delete21:17 a beautiful summary : “ she does not need a hairstylist, especially not at Dawn”! I like what Sophie is wearing and love that she puts together outfits she likes, not always following the current fashions. She definitely knows what she can wear together - even if the previous commenter would like her in something different.
DeleteI love the coat dress. The V neckline is ideal for Duchess Sophie’s shape, and the color is beautiful. However the hat and shoes look like they belong to a different outfit. I find fedoras a little casual for such a reverent occasion. The style of the shoe is fine, the color does not bring the outfit together at all.
ReplyDeleteLooking at Duchess Sophie she defies her age.She has beautiful skin and enviable figure, and up until recently she had a good eye for style. I hope those days return soon.
Lowri.
Nice coat. Remembering the Soldiers who gave so much and get so little back in respect and thanks. Nice to see her again.

The coat dress is beautiful, not so sure of the color of her hat, bag, verse her shoes.
ReplyDeleteI like the hat especially with that hair style; however, velvet is a winter fabric. It doesn't seem appropriate for an event in late April - it's springtime. Wear a black crepe or light-weight wool blend What goes through her mind when she goes to the closet each day? I am baffled.
ReplyDeleteVirginia, spring time in UK / Europe has variable weather. This morning for us was 1 degree Celsius. On days like this we wear winter clothes. On other days with sun out we can wear summer clothes. Velvet is appropriate in the cold, and it doesn’t matter what the season is but rather the weather. She’s a practical English woman so I think what goes through her mind is: what’s the weather going to be, what is my role going to be at the event, and who do I need to respect/ please with my outfit. It’s not us?!
