On April 30, 2025, Queen Mary of Denmark attended the opening of the exhibition “Danner of Denmark” at Frederiksborg Castle in Hillerød. This special exhibition tells the story of Countess Danner — one of the most remarkable and controversial women of 19th-century Denmark — through paintings, drawings, sculptures, photographs, and diaries. The exhibition presents Countess Danner as a symbol of social mobility, women’s liberation, and the fight against injustice. The special exhibition "Danner of Denmark" will be on view at Frederiksborg from May 1 to November 16, 2025.

Not my favourite look, though she looks very nice. For me personally if I were to see a queen I would like to see some jewelry, to elevate the outfit. Doesn’t have to be over the top just some pizzaz. Her earrings are hidden in her hair, so a pin on her blouse would of been nice.

I think this is where Scandinavian simplicity is winning out. Yes she’s a queen, but also a Dane (now); and Scandinavian style really is “enough not more”. Or maybe she forgot to put the brooch on at the last moment because her dogs were jumping around and kids rolling on the floor?!

Queen Mary looks beautiful! Her blouse is gorgeous on her--that deep purple is a wonderful color for her. I wish I could see her earrings more--they look very interesting and pretty.

In 1860, King Frederik 7 gave a set of jewellery to Countess Danner as a birthday gift. The set can be seen at Rosenborg Castle in Copenhagen, the same place where the crown jewels are kept. Queen Mary is wearing the earrings from that set. In connection with another Danner-event, Queen Mary wore the brooch from the set. The set was created by court jeweller J. Diderichsen and made of red gold with citrins, amethysts, pearls and diamonds. Pictures of the set can be found on-line.
      Regarding Countess Danner:
She was born as Louise Rasmussen as an illegitimate child, into a lower class family. She grew up in the inner city of Copenhagen as one of the poor children of the streets. King Frederik 7 was married to his second queen, when he met Louise Rasmussen and began a relationship with her.
indledte deres forhold. In 1850, against all odds, they were married, and Louise Ramussen became Countess Danner. In light of her status as a low class commoner in the 1800s stricly devided class
society, the marriage was abhorrent to the upper echelons of society -, commoners, nobility and aristocracy alike. And it was a big political burden for the King, but he never broke with her. The King died in
1863, and with the money inherited from the King, Countess Danner established the Danner Foundation, dedicated to helpingpoor women and children. Today, she is regarded as a pioneer, she was one of the first people in Denmark to take on large-scale humanitarian work. Countess Danner is to be admired.

This is a bad combi: purple is not a good colour, for no one, and the combination with the skirt is just too ordinary
